It all began one day while shopping at a beauty retail supply store. There were numerous wigs on display. After browsing the wigs, I finally found the look, length and color that I wanted.
I asked the sales associate if the chosen wig was available. She said, “NO, that’s all we have!!” Then I asked if I could have the wig on the doll head for a discounted price since it was already opened and sampled by many customers. She said “I can discount $1.00!” I asked if she another color. Rudely, she replied “NO!”
At that point, I was frustrated because I really wanted to purchase a nice wig for an event later that evening. Every time I would visit that store, they would never have the color I was looking for.
I began to think, “Why don’t I just make my OWN wig? Weft colors, lengths and textures are always readily available. So, I can make EXACTLY what I want.”
Around early 2004 is when the “secret” of the Lace Front wig was exposed. Keep in mind that this wig has been around for quite some time, but it wasn’t available to freely purchase by the average consumer.
Industry information was collected. Intensive training took place and Amid Beauty was established in 2006.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I am very proud of the fact that we are truly able to help people. That is why I am so passionate about the company. A lady contacted us because she was interested in learning how to make wigs. She decided to sign up for one of our wig making classes. Communication with her was frequent because she had many questions.
One day I noticed that I had not heard from her. I sent a follow up email. No response. I waited a week before sending another email. No response. She did not show up for the wig making class. I began to worry. So, I followed up with her again. No response. Eventually, she did contact us and explained that she had run into many unfortunate circumstances which included losing her job and becoming financially strained. She wasn’t sure what she was going to do because her job skills were limited.
I refunded her money for the class and offered to teach her how to ventilate and make wigs. It was hard for her to grasp, but she stuck with it. Eventually, she began to make money online selling her wigs. She is extremely talented and sells many custom wigs today. She decided to create custom wigs full time and not enter the workforce again. She is now able to happily support her family and enjoy the free time she has always desired.
