Meet Angelica Medina of Hair by Angiedoll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Medina.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Angelica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
What started as a hobby to make money, quickly became my passion. A 20-year-old figuring out life! A part-time college student, working and not happy. I was always so ambitious to be successful. Life was economically rough and being in college 4+years was not convenient. I knew I wanted to do something I loved and also make me money.

Times where hard it pushed me to look for an alternative and follow my instinct. I was eager to be great to any route I was about to take. After high school, I wanted to go to a cosmetology school. However, my high school advisor laughed and said: “hairdresser make no money” and that quickly shut the thought of me being a beautician. I also didn’t want to let my parents down. Since they also thought the same, but little did I know. Endless possibilities in the beauty industry!

3years later with a lot of hard work and dedication. I strived to make a name for myself and proved all those doubters I made it! Proud to say I’m a salon suite owner and have an amazing clientele that supports me and my work.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had many obstacles come my way through my career. Since the day I decided to quit my job and attend beauty school full time. I will say Building my clientele was the hardest. Everything was a trial and error.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hair by Angiedoll story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in balayage, I’m known for seamless blending and dimensional blondes. I’m very proud of my work ethic! What sets me apart from others? I can say my unique style of work. I love to do a different variety of color and not only blondes. I also customize tape in extensions. My clientele is mainly long (Rapunzel) dark coarse hair. How did I get so lucky lol, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love the challenge!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say I was blessed not lucky with an amazing mentor who taught me all I know. Who believed and pushed me to be successful. Not everyone is lucky to have someone to train you and teach you their ways. In this industry freshly out of beauty school, no one wants to help you. So thank you, Amanda, for your constant support! I’m now lucky to be able to train my lovely assistant Ashley, and help her grow in this industry.
