Meet Hector Mendoza of Inspire Fitness Dallas in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Mendoza.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Hector. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started about 10 years ago, when I was in college up in Kansas and decided to get my personal trainer certification on the side of working on my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. I came back home to Dallas and continued my degree at the University of North Texas in Denton and that’s when I first started working for LA Fitness Duncanville for a short period of time, eventually starting my career as a trainer with Anytime Fitness Dallas and that’s when things really took off for me. I trained at Anytime Fitness for about 6 years, where I worked with a wide range of clientele with an equally wide range of goals and physical condition. After honing my skills as a trainer during this time, I eventually took a leap of faith and decided to open my own personal training studio. The first location was on Jefferson and Marsalis where I spent around 1.5 years, then we moved to Zang and Beckley for close to 3 years and as of last month, we moved to our latest and greatest location, this time on Jefferson and Llewellyn. Over the years, I’ve spent plenty of time getting new certifications and evolving my skills and knowledge as a trainer, as well as learning hope to manage people and the business aspect to everything. It’s been a crazy but worthwhile ride!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a crazy journey and smooth is definitely not word I would use! There’s been tons of learning experiences along the way and I feel like I’ve grown as a trainer, business owner, manager and overall, as a person. I had never managed people before, so I started from absolute scratch. I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way but I’ve also learned so much. I’ve also learned that not everybody has the best intentions and things don’t always go your way, but I’ve learned to only worry about the things that I can control! My stress management skills have also grown immensely (lol)!

Please tell us about Inspire Fitness Dallas.
Inspire Fitness Dallas is all about helping people become the best version of themselves! Almost every client that we work with is new to fitness. Our goal as trainers at Inspire is to take them from a ground zero fitness level to a functional level of fitness and eventually to realization of their personal goals. Most of the time, a client has a simple goal, to lose weight but looking at them through my trainer googles, I see physical weaknesses and limitations that they may or may not be aware of. It’s my job to fix these issues, all while helping them reach their personal goals. I’m extremely proud of the culture we’ve built here, as most of our clientele see the results that many of our members and clients are getting, and they want to be their own success story as well! The community seems to really respond to all of the before and after pictures we feature on our social media pages, so I feel that is what really sets us apart from the rest.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is laying on the couch watching Pokemon haha! I was a chubster most of my childhood!
