Meet Alan and Gina Galichia of Country Garden Antiques

Today we’d like to introduce you to  Alan and Gina Galichia.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We are a husband & wife team & we both were formerly in the medical field. When our son was born we wanted to start a business that allowed us more flexibility and enjoyment than our former positions. (Which is funny, because our son is now in medical school.)

We both loved antiques & design work, so we opened an antique store in the Dallas Design District. We have been in the same location for about 25 years now. We began by setting up at antiques shows locally & across the U.S., including the popular Round Top/Warrenton shows. We no longer do shows but have the same great merchandise available right here in Dallas.

We carry a variety of merchandise including American & European furniture, lighting, & accessories, as well as an extensive garden selection. Our looks include fine French & Italian, farmhouse, and casual chic.

Has it been a smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges to our business was building a list of clientele that has a variety of needs & wants. We used to rent merchandise for photo shoots quite frequently for many Dallas based home goods stores.

That has subsided some due to online sales & in-house photography by many of the retailers. The biggest competition to our brick & mortar store is probably the availability of home decor available online now. When we started, the internet had barely begun.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Country Garden Antiques – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are known for having a variety of merchandise inInspirationhome decor at affordable prices. We also have the largest selection of vintage Christmas ornaments in the Dallas area. We’re most proud of being able to make a living in a very challenging time for specialty stores. We are best known for our creative, unusual & beautiful displays & vignettes throughout the store.

We also provide full-service estate sales with our company. A lot of our customers tell us they come here for inspiration and relaxation. Were most proud of the fact that we have been here for 25 plus years & now own our buildings.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We like that Dallas has so much of a design presence. The Dallas Design Center and World Trade Center which are nearby make this a popular destination for clients & customers.

We are from the Midwest originally and love the warmer weather. What we don’t like so much is the increasing traffic problems on Dallas roads.
