Meet Molly May Rockwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly May Rockwell.

Molly May, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My dad has always been a musician, so growing up I was always around it. I loved singing and always wanted to be part of it. He wrote and produced an album of original songs when I was around 8 years old and during the writing process, I was inspired and wrote a song of my own. He was kind enough to put it on his album and then I got to perform it at all of his shows too. The love grew from there, even though I had incredible stage fright.

Towards the end of high school, I gathered the courage to have a music career of my own and I wrote my first album. We recorded it and then I got scared again and not much happened with it. I went to college and got a degree in accounting and followed that path for a couple years. After a couple years of sitting at a desk, I realized that life is too short. I went through a program called AMTC and once I graduated from that, I wrote and recorded a second full-length album, The Risk.

Once the album came out I started performing again and conquered the stage fright. For the past couple of years, I have been doing shows around Texas and moved from playing for tips at a coffee shop to doing festivals across the metroplex. I am currently working on a new album as well as some music videos.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have struggled with terrible nerves and stage fright my whole life. I am now comfortable in front of a crowd but it was a long road. I would almost have an anxiety attack before getting the mic in my hand.

Please tell us about Molly May Rockwell.
I do shows with my dad accompanying me on guitar. We have a great musical chemistry and work really well together. We do a mix of originals and covers. Our covers span a wide variety of genres and generations so that there is something for everyone. My originals are very catchy and have creative lyrics that people can relate to.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My first time going to Disney World. It was so magical. There’s a feeling there that anything is possible.
