Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Noah.
Michelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Michelle Noah. Most days you will find me in my studio painting and listen to music. Current Artist Workshop is an artist workshop and studio dedicated to trailblazing creativity and providing unique resources to the artist of all ages. I earned my Bachelors in Graphic Design with an emphasis in Printmaking and Painting from OU. Joined by Lana Housewright an Architectural Watercolor Artist we opened Current in June of 2016 in historic downtown Garland.
I opened this space with the vision to build a studio that met the following characteristics: CREATIVE/UNIQUE/RESOURCEFUL/REMARKABLE/ENGAGING/NOVEL/TRAILBLAZING, and that’s how we got our name CURRENT. It’s also the criteria by which we shape our classes and workshops. We offer painting classes as well as group events. We love hosting both up and coming new artist and teaching someone who has never painted before. We also love being part of a Historic downtown and getting involved with other businesses on the square.
Current Artist Workshop has been partnering with Rosalind Coffee Company to display original art and host painting events. Check out our website: michellebnoah.com. We’re here for you, our fellow artist, makers, and creators. Let’s explore together!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a small business has been very exciting but also very scary at times. I signed the lease and my name is on all the bills. I love having lots of space to paint and display my art but making rent every month can be challenging.
Teaching classes and holding painting events have been a great way to generate income for our studio. I am living my dream of having my own studio!
Current Artist Workshop – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Current Artist Workshop is exactly what the name implies… we are a place where people can create by painting, collaging and using mixed media. Our goal is to encourage our customers to create their own unique style of art.
When we host painting events we have an example of what to paint and lead people in a simple tutorial but we always encourage them to make it their own. I hosted a class of 17 people our theme was a bicycle with a basket of flowers. Only 2 of the 17 painted the bicycle everyone else painted something they were inspired to paint. It was my most successful class!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being part of an Art Show in downtown Denver where my 2 daughters were living at the time. They helped me pick the art I displayed and invited their friends to come see my art and buy my art, It was a team effort and so much fun. I think they were proud of me and I know I was proud of them!
