Meet Ed Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Hall.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was an illustrator/design major in college. Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO hired me out of school to become an illustrator in the greeting card department. It was one of the largest creative studios in the world at the time – filled with the most talented and innovative people that some I can still call friends.

After about 15 years I became restless with the corporate life and that’s when I began painting for myself. I found studio space and began to find my voice. It was and still is a process that is never ending -always learning and growing. Do what you love and love what you do. That quote stuck in my mind helped me to realize that I made the right decision to become an abstract painter.

Please tell us about your art.
My work consists of mostly large acrylic paintings that are often seen as abstracted landscapes. I’m interested in the worn and weathered elements found in the environment with focus on color, texture, and mark making.

My approach to the painting is spontaneous and intuitive. I apply multiple layers of paint and continue to add and erase the surface to reveal depth and texture. I concentrate on the contrast of dark and light, rough and smooth, and transparent and opaque.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Stay connected with any and all artists groups in the DFW area. There are quite a few to choose from and to fill any need.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am represented by Craighead Green Gallery in Dallas. My painting studio is just north of the Design District. I welcome visitors by appointment.
