Meet Eydie Robinson of Desire to Empower

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eydie Robinson.

Eydie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey has been a long one, to say the least, but even as a child, I always knew I wanted to help people, I just never envisioned I would be where I am today.

Unfortunately, beginning at a very young age up until my adult years, I experienced a multitude of trials and tribulations which led to a life of bad decisions, depression, stress and low self-esteem but there came a point in my life when I said, “Enough is enough! I am tired of living this way because I know I am worth more and I deserve better than this.” This was the point in my life when things became clear. I dedicated my life to truly finding out what my purpose was and from there is when the vision of how I would help people became clear.

That is when Desire to Empower was birthed. I realized that my struggles would help build someone else’s strength. I knew that I would be able to be a voice to other girls and women to let them know that they are not alone and that regardless of what they are going through, what they have been through or what anyone has ever told them that they can make it and that they can overcome which is where my motto Yes You Can stem from.

My goal is to be a positive voice to women and girls letting them know that they can achieve any goal, they can overcome any obstacle and they can be successful because I did despite all of the things I suffered from and if I can do it, they can too!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This road has NOT been a smooth one at all!! This road was bumpy, there were roadblocks, detours and stops along the way but I was determined to push through because I knew I had a purpose and a duty to fulfill. People told me I couldn’t do it, but I AM doing it! Moving from another city and trying to gain exposure to my organization was difficult but I had to make sacrifices which included going to networking events, vending and basically doing whatever I needed to do to make it happen.

Funding was also a struggle but I went and educated my self on how to get grants, sponsorship and sought advice from other people on fundraising ideas. So despite the struggles and even through the obstacles and challenges I made it happen and continue to make it happen because I am dedicated to this 1000% through the good and the bad.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Desire to Empower story. Tell us more about the business.
My organization, Desire to Empower is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to empowering, inspiring, and motivating girls and young women to act on their goals and be successful in today’s society.

Our mission is to guide, educate and bring awareness to girls and young women in the areas of personal and professional development and we accomplish this through the many programs we provide which includes: personal development, career and education planning, and leadership development to a name a few. We are also striving to incorporate our mentoring program Empowered Girls Soar.

Aside from that, we strive to be a voice in their ears letting them know that YES YOU CAN! We strive for our girls and women to be confident and know that they are capable of anything they put their minds too!

What I am most proud of is our past work with Dallas Life and the mentoring we’ve been able to do. I am also proud that we’ve had two successful Women’s Empowerment Conferences over the last couple of years and those who have attended have been able to walk away being motivated but also having the tools and resources they need to get to their next steps in life.

On a personal level, I am also proud of the two books I have published, Life Behind Closed Doors and Women Inspiring Nations which aligns with my organization and my goal for helping women be the best they can be. Additionally, I am grateful for the many talks I’ve been able to give providing tools, resources, education and sharing my story.

I believe what sets us apart is our genuineness to help others and the fact that we use faith as the foundation of our organization.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played no part in my life or business. I truly believe that everything I have accomplished thus far was already predestined. It was just up to me to fulfill the call.
