Meet Ross Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ross Edwards.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I began painting with airbrush on mural commissions in San Antonio, Texas as a free lance artist. Moved to Dallas in the late 70’s mainly painting commissions for individuals and corporations. My art career was interrupted by working as the design director for a museum exhibits company for fifteen years.

Since 2010 I have combined my art with designing museums & gallery exhibits. My favorite is “Hunter Gatherers of the Blackland Prairie”. Currently I’m painting most of the time available in this life.

Please tell us about your art.
I am painting a series titled “Dreaming of Places & Parables”, all open spray airbrush. This series appears to be landscapes with obvious hidden meanings. They are revealed in the story of dreams I share. This series is unique in designed compositions and the magnified level of detail.

Each paint day my prayer is to be an empty vessel for the Lord to fill with His grace & creative wisdom. This is what has made this series what it is and has increased the level of detail beyond my history & ability. My hope is that anyone seeing the paintings will read the dream story or here me tell the dream story to reveal Christ Jesus.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Anyone considering painting with airbrush, start by painting LARGE surfaces. No masking, just painting open spray. This will teach you first the ability to actually paint with air. Artist’s who try airbrush for the first time paint small causing them to use a masking technique. Followed by spraying over the masking, never learning to paint. I paint with with acrylics through a Holbein pistol grip because I like the comfort it provides and range of detail. The acrylics require thinning to a milk consistency and my compressor is set at about 40psi. Experiment with what may work best for you who choose to paint with air.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Several of my paintings are shown in a gallery in Granbury,Texas. Your Private Collection Art Gallery. I have searched for a gallery I could relate to and had excellent artists work & this is it. Also my paintings and exhibit work can be seen on my website – rossedwardsartist.com
