Meet Dr. Eric Jacoby of Personalized Women’s Healthcare in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Eric Jacoby.

Dr. Jacoby, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was not focused in High School which resulted in having to take many high school classes in junior college. It wasn’t until my second year at junior college when I became interested in pursuing a degree in medicine. I challenged myself with a particularly difficult semester of classes and told myself that if I earned straight A’s that semester I would commit to becoming a physician. I did get straight A’s and transferred to UCLA where I graduated with a degree in Kinesiology.

I took a year off before applying to medical school and worked as an exercise physiologist at the Pritikin Longevity Center in Santa Monica, California. I went on to obtain my medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine while also earning a Masters in Public Health. I then completed my OB/GYN residency at the University of South Florida in Tampa. It was in Tampa where I met my wife Karla who happened to be a Labor and Delivery nurse.

Upon completing my residency, I interviewed for a position in a private practice in Plano. Since my family lived in Los Angeles and Karla’s family in Tampa, we decided to split the difference and move to Texas in 1997. I had a solo practice for 10 years before merging practices with Dr. Berry Fleming. We appropriately named our practice Personalized Women’s Healthcare. We strive to provide comprehensive and personalized care to the women of North Texas.

I pride myself on taking the time to truly listen and address my patient’s concerns at every visit. I enjoy providing care for low and high-risk obstetrics, adolescent and adult gynecology, menopausal and hormone imbalances. In addition, I have a strong interest in diagnosing and treating a variety of female sexual disorders resulting in enhanced intimacy for my patients.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As I previously mentioned, I basically enrolled in many high school courses in junior college. I lived at home and commuted past my high school to junior college for a year. Most of my friends were enrolled in 4-year universities and I decided to apply to San Diego State University. I received a provisional acceptance and moved to San Diego and enrolled in any classes still available the week prior to the start of the semester.

After 3 weeks of classes, I received a letter from the admissions office stating that admission had been denied base on my high school grades and SAT score which was 10 points below their admission criteria. It was at this point I made a decision to changed the course of my life. I decided to challenge my rejection rather than move back home without a fight. I made an appointment with the dean of admissions and explained why I deserved the opportunity to study SDSU.

I explained how I was the first in my family to go to college and that I was determined to work hard and prove my ability to succeed at the college level. I was given acceptance that semester and at that point realized that I could do anything if I worked hard and didn’t accept no as an answer. I only spent one semester at SDSU before realizing that I would be better off moving back home and this time applying myself 100% so I could then transfer to UCLA and pursue my dream of becoming a physician. My hard work and perseverance paid off and I graduated from UCLA and was admitted to Tulane School of Medicine.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Personalized Women’s Healthcare – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
In 2007, I decided to created Personalized Women’s Healthcare with Dr. Berry Fleming in West Plano. Dr. Fleming and I both shared the same vision of providing excellent obstetric and gynecologic care in a personalized and compassionate manner to the women of North Texas.

We specialize in low and high risks obstetrics, adolescent and adult gynecology, infertility, menopause, and sexual dysfunction. In addition, we perform minimally invasive procedures using the Di Vinci Robot and in office surgeries such as endometrial ablations and sterilizations. We also treat hair loss with low level lighter laser therapy and provide vaginal rejuvenation with the MonoLisa Touch laser.

Both Dr. Fleming and I have been recognized as “The best Ob/GYN physicians” in both Dallas and Collin county by D Magazine. What I am most proud of is our incredible staff and our goal in treating every patient a member of our family. I continue to love my chosen profession and feel honored to be caring for my patients and now their daughters that I delivered over the past 20 years. We pride ourselves in taking the time to listen to our patients and address their needs at each and every appointment.
