Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Josuweit.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My day job is as a 7th grade Special Education Math teacher and I didn’t purchase my first DSLR until about five years ago. Photography seemed to come naturally to me and I found a creative side of me that I never knew I had. Like many others, I started by photographing anything that would get in front of my camera and I naturally progressed into shooting weddings. I soon realized how much I enjoy photographing weddings because of their significance to everyone involved in the wedding day.
Please tell us about your art.
I want people to feel moved by pictures of people that they’ve never met and don’t even know. In my opinion, a good photo does just that. It’s a difficult balancing act of trying to capture authentic moments in the most natural way possible while making everything within each frame work together to tell the story of that couple’s wedding day. I’m inspired by each couple’s unique story and that helps to guide me in how I tell their wedding day. I look for relationships, laughter, tears, smiles, and all of the other emotions that people experience throughout a wedding.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Ultimately, I define my success but my couple’s happiness. If they love their pictures, album, wall art, and experience, then I’m happy. I’ve won a bunch of awards over the years and while I certainly appreciate and am humbled by them, awards aren’t why I do what I do. I love what I do because I enjoy showing others how awesome they truly are. I believe that connecting and caring about my couples is the most important characteristic to success because I can’t tell their story if I’m not immersed in their story.
