Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie “OhSoStefanie” Johnson.
Stephanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My family is from Suriname, South America. So I am 2nd generation American. Born and raised in Detroit, MI. Graduating from the world re-known, Cass Technical H.S. I went to Michigan State University and studied Anthropology and Jewish Studies. I then moved to Dallas, Texas in 2010 where I entered the fine-dining restaurant scene at Morton’s The Steakhouse. That’s where I I fell in love with the hospitality industry. Professionally, I’ve worked as a Nanny, Corporate Concierge, Host Trainer, Sales & Marketing and Human Resources in the restaurant industry.
The 2013 development of my company Singles & The City started as a simple idea to bring singles together to experience the “best of ” the city. Since then, we’ve incorporated the philosophy that “healthy people attract healthy people” and host intimate and high demand workshops and dinners that bring in city’s most notable Therapists/Counselors/Life Coaches, to help empower and encourage Singles to make smarter dating decisions and maximize this time of their life. Our tagline is ” There’s more to being single than dating”.
Has it been a smooth road?
In 2015 – I was laid off from my corporate job in Human Resources and had absolutely no luck in finding employment, which was strange to me because I’m so well connected in Dallas. After months of searching, I eventually ran out of my savings and over a year later – found myself losing my home, car, and basically displaced and homeless. I slept on friends sofa’s, I had a roommate, I Lyfted to my own events. I had an office at Starbucks – drinking the same tall black coffee all day to hold my “office seat”. It was quite the experience.
All the while… I pressed through – it was painful, embarrassing at times and extremely uncomfortable but I knew it was something I had to go through to get to the other side. My relationship with Christ got me through.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Singles & The City – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

In a world filled with dating apps, matchmakers and quick fixes – single people aren’t being influenced to do the work on themselves BEFORE running to relationships. I feel it’s my duty to lead them to the path of self-awareness, wholeness and accountability. It’s an honor to serve the Members of Singles & The City.
I’m most proud of the self-actualization that takes place after Singles leave our events.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of the Dallas food scene! It’s incredible. My least favorite is the lack of cultural diversity.
