Today we’d like to introduce you to Zarina Karapetyan.
Zarina, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started making art when I was very young and had always love to make things. When I was 13, thankfully, my parents enrolled me in a classical painting academy called, Ermitage Art Academy, located in Plano, Texas. I studied there until I graduated high school and now I am currently a teacher’s assistant at the academy. After high school, I went over to the University of North Texas for some time but didn’t end up finishing my painting degree with the school. I took some time off to explore my own creative work and spirit. I found myself a few years later living in Aubrey, Texas inside my own dream. I found a beautiful artist studio, a little cottage in the middle of the woods. I spent a year in Aubrey, painting and drawing until my fingers tensed up. Drawing trees, flowers, and anything that made my heart sing in complete solitude. I left the reclusive life and now have planted my feet in Oak Cliff, Dallas. I am currently studying art history online and focusing on my art career simultaneously. Beyond all the time with my academics, I set forth on a personal journey to become my true self and a soulful artist. I’ve work very hard since I was 13 to sell my paintings, gain recognition and grow. But now, my main focus is really pushing my edges creativity and allowing myself to explore my skill set. For me, now is my time to laser focus on entering the art world with strong, meaningful work. This time of my creative life is extremely important to my growth as not only an individual but as a creative.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My artwork ranges throughout different mediums. Oil painting, watercolor, graphite drawings, pastel drawing, pretty much any medium I can get my hands on. I make anything that calls to me, but mostly earthy images call me to. Flowers, trees, and the concepts of space have becoming a reoccurring theme for me in my work. As an artist I personally feel that my strongest and truest work comes from all the beauty around me. I try not to force my ideas, and just let me concepts flow. I could be making completely different work within a 6-month time span, and I really try to let my work grow in whichever direction it likes. I hope people feel a sense of beauty and love that surrounds them. I really love when people recognize the spiritual quality I try to evoke within my artwork.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Don’t let other people’s opinion of your hustle get in the way. Work hard, sell your paintings, and let go of who you think you should be as an artist. Just let yourself fall into who you are, people will and respect your artwork much more if you are honest in your work. Don’t try to be like everyone else and work all the time! Art comes first, and always stay connected with your work.
