Meet Glolike Halo of Halotheplussizemodel, Glolikehalo in DFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glolike Halo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off about 2 years ago going to a casting, thinking I would be a helping hand as a designer for Dynasty Denim but instead she wanted me to model as a plus size model. So I got my feet wet for a few months, I did two photoshoots and two fashion shows that were for the community. I hadn’t modeled before other than watching America’s Next Top model on TV as a little girl so I didn’t really think I would come this far. I would do a photoshoot once every few months and a fashion show once every few months until I got a clear vision of who I could actually become. I received that vision back in August of 2017 and ever since I decided to go harder and stop going through the motions. I was always discouraged and friends that I thought were close to me never came to any of my shows, I could never get anyone to come out and support me. I overheard a few models talking about me and would make fun of me modeling or me on the runway so it became really discouraging. I remember overhearing someone at a casting tell me how I would never it and it became really discouraging. I even have relatives tell me how I need to stop modeling and how I was just wasting my time because I wasn’t getting paid to do it and models don’t really get paid because it was a hard industry to be in. I would pick my own clothes out and do my own make up every photoshoot or casting call I went to and the harder I went the more people started to recognize me. I decided to go back to school and juggle two things at once which was modeling and being an esthetician which specializes in skin and make up. So when I would go to shows people would ask me to do their make-up and I started practicing on people without charging until I got good enough to start making money. I would also promote my business as an esthetician, makeup artist. And custom eyelash distributor. Once I came out with GlolikeHalo. I came up with the name GlolikeHalo because a lot of us always get discouraged and people always try and dim our light but a Halo will always shine. I got the name Halo from my aunt who called me Halo ever since I was born. Once I started shooting with photographers I dreamed about shooting with when I first started, it allowed me to see more of a clear vision of who I was. I know manage myself as Halo the plus size model as well as my business GlolikeHalo. I am not yet a full time model and my business as an esthetician, makeup artist, and eyelash distributer is on a good rise. I have been able to make money off of both and I am very blessed to be able to present them to the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth on the road. I was getting discouraged by a lot of people and overheard a lot of people talking negative about how I modeled or how I walked. I also was dealing with depression, a bad relationship, bad friendships, taking care of my daughter as a single mother and working 40+ hrs. a week to keep a roof over our head as well as trying to go to school while trying to model and bring my business about. I like to think of DFW industry as a jungle full of snakes and I am a lion in the jungle. People will add on to the stress that you already have and won’t even think to ask if you are okay or how your well-being is. What I have learned is that a lot of us are selfish and don’t like to support others but when it’s time for us to get that same support we look dumbfounded because the tables turned.

Halotheplussizemodel, Glolikehalo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am known as a Plussize model. I model when I get gigs and when I don’t I promote Glolikehalo.

What I am most proud of is me being able to make an income and pay my bills without working a job these past 5 months while trying to get my feet wet in the industry. What sets me apart from others is that I am 5’5 a size 18 and model as if I am a standard 5’11 size 0-9, I am not just a Makeup Artist but also an Esthetician who specializes in skin & waxing as well as having my own custom eyelashes.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment of my career is when I got to shoot for Ford & I got to shoot with a man named Calvin Brown. I’ve been wanting to shoot with Calvin Brown Photography so bad for almost a year and I finally got to shoot with him. When I did he was so encouraging and I even told him about my journey and he could not stress to me enough to keep going and don’t worry about what others say about me. I thought shooting with him was a dream come true and everything turned out great. I also am on the rise on my Instagram account with 16k followers. I also am proud of the work I’ve done with all of the photographers I have worked with and cannot thank them enough for believing in me because little do they know, they were the only ones who did and a few other people I met via Facebook. As far as Glolikehalo the proudest moment was me getting compensated for Jazzuupboutique fashion show and I am forever grateful to be able to be a part of it as a model and Makeup Artist.
