Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisah Riley and Alexandria Traylor.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The Glow Print was created from the desire for more intimacy and genuine relationship for Black and Brown creatives and entrepreneurs in the Dallas area. As a college student, I spent all of the little coins I had on attending brunches, panel events, and various other networking opportunities the city had to offer for a women of color, like myself. Though I enjoyed networking over brunch and mimosas, I began to get tired of going to these events. I felt that with so many amazing minds and resources in the room, we should be leaving with more than just another Instagram follow and business card in our purse.
After meeting Alexandria at a local networking brunch for bloggers, I discovered she was feeling the same way. We just saw a gap in the Dallas scene for woman of color influencers to build genuine connections in unique environments. After discussing our ideas over the phone for a few days we decided to meet at a local Starbucks and plan away. Now here we are, one year later with over 10 events under our belt under The Glow Print.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, for the most part it has been a smooth road. Our main challenges in the beginning were finding a work style and schedule that works well for both of us. We’ve tried several different programs that would allow us to work efficiently, but recently landed on Trello. It took some time, but we found our rhythm when it comes to aligning our schedules, which was pretty difficult initially because I worked a 9-5, while Alexandria is a nurse so her hours vary.
The other main challenge we’ve faced was the pressure to more events, and make them available to more people because of the overwhelming support we were receiving. We have so many great ideas, and so many amazing ladies that want to join us – we felt the need to do it all. We started to feel as though we were burning out and it was only the beginning. It took some reflection, but we had to get back to our WHY for starting The Glow Print which is building community for women of color creatives and entrepreneurs by creating unique and intimate experiences.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Glow Print story. Tell us more about the business.
The Glow Print is an event-based organization here in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. We curate events for women of color creatives, entrepreneurs, and business women aspiring to network and build genuine relationships with like-minded women. Instead of focusing on how to grow your following on Instagram, or how to make your perfect sales pitch, we focus on the woman behind the brand. Each event is carefully developed to foster an environment that promotes genuine friendship, and vulnerable conversation, all while having fun. We are most proud of the growth and relationships we’ve seen flourish with our #glowgang stemming from the events we’ve held. The Glow Print is different from other organizations because we focus on small groups for intimacy. We truly believe in quality over quantity, as well as collaboration over competition.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know that we can honestly say luck has played a role in our lives or businesses. We both are very rooted in the fact that everything happens for a reason, and that God has the ultimate say so. When good things happen, even unexpectedly, we count it as a blessing. When things don’t go our way we work hard and use our resources to either turn the situation around or see it as a lesson to be learned.
