Meet Andrew Holmes of MusicByAndrewHolmes in Deep Ellum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Holmes.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Writing has always been a selfish endeavor for me, almost therapeutic. Even as a child, I would create characters and plots that vaguely represented the events in my life that I was processing at the time. I didn’t ever touch a guitar until after my last year in school. As soon as I did, the instrument quickly became a tool for my passion to write. My poetry turned into lyrics, and my stories into songs. Over the years, I played in every room that would have me – churches, biker bars, rooftops, backyards, weddings, funerals, living rooms; any space big enough for a guitar and an audience. Each show helped me hone my craft and every person I met inspired me to write more.

Through trial and error, I discovered my sacred process for songwriting and profound respect for artistry. I believe that those blessed with the gift of musicality have a responsibility to outwardly express their inward, innate truths.

I set out with a never-ending mission to share my stories. I traveled all over the country playing shows from town to town. In late 2016, I was given the opportunity to record my first studio record – “Through The Hollows,” which was released in November of 2017. I have spent the majority of this year writing new melodies and putting to use all of the knowledge I have gained as a songwriter. My newest collection of songs is the product of every lesson learned, and I intend to release them in late 2018.

Has it been a smooth road?
Around the same time that I picked up a six-string, I was recovering from two extensive surgeries that left me unable to walk for over a year. Keeping my mind busy was the most difficult part of that period, and needless to say- music kept me sane. It gave me a reason to get up in the mornings and motivated me to continue to shape my skill as a creator.

As arduous as that season was, I have always considered it a blessed way to begin my journey as a songwriter. The depth that came from a year of immobility, is a gift I would never return. Since then, each struggle along the way has been nothing but a passing cloud with a silver lining. All trials have brought refinement and every tribulation has pushed me in the right direction.

No one said it would be easy to live the life of an artist, but then again – who says life should be easy?

So, as you know, we’re impressed with MusicByAndrewHolmes – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
For the past six years, I have been a traveling singer/songwriter. My job is to connect with people, and that can be done in many different ways.

Life is a dangerous and fragile thing. We all walk around with our guard up to protect ourselves from the harsh reality of the outside world. My occupational responsibility is to create messages and environments that soften hearts and connect individuals with the present moment through truths written in songs that unite us all as human beings.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas, the land of diverse opportunity. I feel that I have seldom met a Dallas local, most folks I’ve come across are from a different place entirely. This city has become a melting pot of people from all different walks of life. My favorite part of Dallas is the constant change and development. Everything is relentlessly evolving and it’s supremely exciting to watch.
