Today we’d like to introduce you to Britany Cervantes.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m known on social media as @ Thebritanyjay” and I started this whole influencer lifestyle the moment when I became a parent for the second time in 2015.
I’ve always been an outgoing, adventurous person, someone who loves to motivate others to try new things and better themselves. Most the time, I tend to push people to get out of their comfort zone and I just love it, it’s so much fun seeing others reaction when trying new food, places or even showing me their best pose for pictures. Seriously, it’s hilarious!
Growing up, my family and I never really went on trips or did things together because of it wasn’t within our budget.
After becoming a mother at an unexpectedly young age; I took a break from social media which made me feel very discouraged, I as if I had lost myself in motherhood.
When I decided to jump back into social media again, I started to follow people who were parents, people who I felt inspired by — the things they would do and places they would visit were an inspiration to me. I began to google kid friendly restaurants and kid-friendly events in my area. Little by little, husband and I got more involved and decided to attend events happening within and outside of Dallas, which led us to our very first family road trip to San Antonio 3 years ago and just 2 months ago, we visited Disney-world in Florida. Taking us further than we’ve ever been before.
I’ve always been one to document everything: food, trips, places, events, clothes, you name it! The feedback, interest, and support from my followers motivated me to make it official and start my “@thedfwparentguide” Instagram page where I document & share everything I do with others.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For me personally, this whole journey has not been easy, but nothing in life is really ever easy nor given, right? I mean otherwise, everyone would be doing it.
Just like my abuelita would say, “If you want it you’ll find a way, if you don’t it’ll go away.”
I like to believe I’m still at the beginning of my journey. I see myself doing bigger and greater things, because I know I have that potential to do so.
One of the biggest challenges for me started back when I moved to the US at the age of 9.
Leaving everything I ever knew back in Mexico and having to adapt to a new lifestyle all while learning a new language was definitely difficult.
After many attempts and failures to blend in, I realized I was born to stand out. Standing out is what led me to be where I am today.
For all the women who are just starting out, my biggest advice is focused on your own dreams and aspirations, it’s not about comparison or who is doing more than who, it’s about passion and doing what you love, don’t be scared to be yourself and stand out from the rest. Staying true to yourself will attract your own audience and likeminded genuine people, of course, there will be a judgment from others, but don’t be intimidated instead be inspired.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Thebritanyjay story. Tell us more about the business.
I pride myself on being my own brand. My social media content ranges from food to raw motherhood, I do my best to remain true to myself and reflect that through my everyday posts.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
There is no such thing as too perfect! We can all use the knowledge to better ourselves!
