Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Rayo.
Ali, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all start back in 1989. I love watching David Copperfield on TV. I would dream about become a magician but did not how. When I saw about 13, I saw a friend of mine vanish a silk scarf. My mind when nuts and I was bit by the magic bug. lol. After about two days of begging him, he told me that his uncle was a magician. After a couple of visits, he told me where a could buy magic and see magicians. Thru out the first year of learn magic, my dad ask me to take some magic with me to a party. After being there for a while, I would be asked to perform magic for the party host and his guest. I remember do some small pocket tricks and be nervous like crazy but after all was done out of nowhere people where clapping and say good job. I fell kind of good but have feeling something was wrong. I saw the host look and thought to myself ” oh No”. He came up to me and said ” Very good job, well done” and handle me a one-hundred-dollar bill to me. After that day, I knew what I want to be. A Magician.
Thought out the years of going to school and perform magic for parties my dream job was about to become a reality when I was asked to work at a magic shop in the West End Market Place in downtown Dallas. After working and about to congratulate high school. Life was good. Well it even got better after that. After work about a year or so, I became the new owner of the shop.
Then came the worst day of my career. After 9/11 sell were down and couldn’t keep the shop open any more. So, 6 months after that I have to close the door to La Case De Magia. (House of Magic). After month or so of being sad and mad at myself. My father offered to help me start a landscape company. Being that he owns one himself, he gives me 10 clients of his own. I remember him look at me and saying (one day you will have your dream again but meanwhile you have to eat.
For a about 8 years of landscape and still doing shows. My mind was set to still do magic full time but a new hobby came along. I would start my own party rental business and print. What I mean is a one stop shop. Where a client could come in and order anything for his or her party. In being of 2015 I open MA Party Productions. Who is MA Party Productions? We are a place where you can get all your party rentals, all your party entertainment, and get you custom printing for your events.
It’s been a good run so far but one day hope to go back to just performing magic. I still do 3 parties a week but would like to make it more. I guess you can say I enjoy the audience reactions and most of all the movement I create for my clients.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Lol it’s been a tough road. I been thru hell and back I would say. I have been with no water, electric, food and going negative in the bank, but I’m still here fight for my dream and been bless to still do what I love. I must say it been a hell of a ride but would not trade nothing for it. I have learned to never say it can’t be done any more. It’s not in my system. If there is a way I will find it.
Please tell us about Ma Party Productions.
Well not just being a basic magician. We have shows from birthday parties to grand illusion show but now we have all your needs for your event. Yes, party rentals, custom printing, and much more. All are events are custom to fit your clients. So, my shows are different.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing. It been a lesson well learned. Without the bumps on along the way maybe I wouldn’t be here today. It made me appreciate life and most of all not to take thing for granted.
