Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Sibley.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My parents served in the U.S. Army since I was a newborn until the end of my sophomore year in high school. We would relocate to a different army base every one-two years and during this time, I’ve had the opportunity to meet people of different backgrounds and cultures, while also gaining a love for travel!
I’ve lived in 7 different states in the USA, and also lived in Germany and South Korea. Through the years, I’ve gained a lot of tips about all aspects of travel that I decided to create a vibrant travel blog called Kandie Wanderlust. The name comes from my love of a whimsical, pastel lifestyle mixed in with the desire to travel and meet people from different cultures. With that being said, travel is MY LIFE!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As an army brat, there are struggles that most civilians can not relate to: both parents being deployed, losing friends, gaining new friends, leaving your things in storage because you don’t know how long you’ll be at a certain location, etc. It’s a life only military brats understand.
However, one way I found to connect with others is my passion to travel! For young women who are currently army brats or simply love to travel, I highly recommend creating a travel blog. It’s like an online diary to track your favorite travels, unforgettable experiences, emotions during your trips (which you will definitely experience). For myself, reading my old travel blog entries, I can see where I’ve grown as a traveler, how my view of the world changed, and where I’m headed in the future as a female traveler.
Another important tip is to engage with other female travelers, especially through social media! There’s a sense of camaraderie and sisterhood when it comes to exploring the world and all it has to offer. I have met so many female travelers online and abroad that to this day we remain close and keep an eye on each other when one is traveling solo. Yes, females can travel solo too!
but traveling is one thing we can all have in common.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Kandie Wanderlust story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a feminine fashion and travel blogger that enjoys writing tips and tricks on how to be fashion savvy and travel the world. My audience consisted of female millennials who love expressing their beauty inside and out with a passion for travel!
My uniqueness comes from my love of pastel beauty and fashion! My trademark style is my pastel-lavender hair and my vibrant fashion styles. I love to show that as an adult you can still hold on to your whimsical ways, be yourself and love life.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Stay positive, take all failures as learning lessons, and know that it gets better in time! Everyone will go through moments of self-doubt, but it’s important that you stay focused on the end goal!
