Meet Linda Anthony Hill of Hill House Manor in Far North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Anthony Hill.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Sanford, Florida and raised in Daytona Beach, Fla. Growing up in a tourist town gave me an insight into what people want and expect out of entertainment and entertainment venues. So hosting Hill House Manor has come naturally to me. I also started writing at an early age. I was published in a national anthology by the time I was ten.

Growing up in the 60’s was great fun and tremendously stressful. The Vietnam war loomed over everything. I lost many friends after high school graduation. They were drafted and never made it home.

I moved from Daytona to Atlanta for a few years, then on to Kentucky for a few more years. Kentucky is where I had my NDE. (Near Death Experience). Some folks think that that experience awakened some of my psychic abilities. Others thought I was pretty freaky to start with.

I found a career in dentistry along the way that supported me for much of my life. I’ve retired from that now and devote most of my time to writing and hosting paranormal investigations at Hill House Manor.

My debut novel, The Anchor is the Key, is a Cozy Mystery novel that released late in 2017. The Spider House is currently being written and will be the second in the Madam Celeste series. Celeste is a psychic in a small town in North Texas. She lives with her cat and does readings from an office in her home. She stumbles into a haunted murder mystery and life becomes more thrilling than she’s accustomed to.

I write a lot of ghost stories and some people believe that much of what I write is either channeled or inspired by Hill House Manor.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What’s a fiction writer without struggles? I struggled to have a baby and ended up adopting about 6 months before my NDE. Thirteen years later my husband died of cancer. I met Del, a true soulmate about 5 years later.

We have both survived cancer since then. We bought a house as a rental investment and it turned out to be so haunted no one would stay through a lease. We struggled to make the payments and pay the taxes. We still do. It’s not a goldmine by any means. But we do rent it out by the night now. Not as a hotel, but as a venue. And it helps keep the bills paid.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hill House Manor and as an author – what should we know?
As a writer, I specialize in ghost stories for both middle school children and adults. Many of my stories are inspired by the happenings at our haunted house, Hill House Manor. I spend a good deal of time promoting my books everywhere I can. People can find me on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Linda-Anthony-Hill/e/B0786WGQN6

As a host for Hill House Manor I give a tour to kick off most investigations. The house can be rented by the night. I guess I’m most proud of being a storyteller on A&E’s My Ghost Story and HGTV’s 10 Most Haunted Homes in America. It was a real treat flying out to LA for filming and then hosting a film crew at the house in Gainesville.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Patience. We have never advertised the haunted house. It took a couple of years for word of mouth to accomplish so much more than advertising ever could.

Having some psychic ability and being an excellent storyteller haven’t hurt me either.
