Meet Tina Peters King of Faith Diva in Mesquite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Peters King.

Tina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved fashion and design. I grew up watching my mother, a very skilled seamstress, make samples and formal dress for Mike Benet formals. I was always fascinated at how she could take what appeared to be straps of fabric and before the week was over I would be looking at a beautiful gown. She was and still is absolutely amazing.

Well I didn’t start out designing clothes. I actually started out designing jewelry. After my late husband passed away suddenly it became a way for me to deal and cope with my grief. I didn’t realize it then but God was preparing me for my assignment. The gift that He has given me has allowed me to meet some of the most amazing people and He is the reason that I am where I am today.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road but that is to be expected anytime you venture into the unknown. The biggest challenges for me are no different than any other small business. Starting out it was a struggle financially. As a creative sometimes we have this big elaborate dreams and sometimes when you don’t see things progressing as you would like it can be very discouraging.

Another challenge for me if finding time to balance my family and my business. There are times when my husband has to come into my studio and make me go to bed. I get so focused on what I am doing that I lose complete track of time. There have been plenty of times when I have wanted to throw in the towel. Then I remember that my gift doesn’t belong to me and that it was given to me for a purpose and that always motivates me to keep pushing.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Faith Diva – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Faith Diva is a faith based design company. We specialize in custom modest apparel and one of a kind jewelry. . We are known for our elaborate sleeves and unique spin on modest apparel. There are so many things that I am proud of that I can’t name just one. First, I am proud that I was chosen as the 2016 Accessory Designer of the Year (AIN). We have showcased in RAW Dallas four times and RAW Austin last year. Faith Diva was also selected and showcased in the PIN Show.

The thing that sets me apart from others is quite simple- I am me. We all are unique and set apart. I am not just a Christian designer. We are so much more than that -it is a ministry. Our clients know that before their garment leaves our studio that it has been prayed over and that we have taken the utmost care to insure that their expectations were exceeded.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the fact that there is so much to do. I have lived in Dallas over 20 years and I am still finding neat little shops and restaurants that I did not know existed. The thing I least like is the traffic I have to fight in order to get to those places.
