Today we’d like to introduce you to Makaela deLaura.
Makaela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
While growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii I have always been fascinated with the beauty industry. I’ve always imagined pursuing an occupation that would allow me to make people feel beautiful and confident. Playing soccer and going to college was a big part of my expected future and I never thought I would get to attend cosmetology school. After graduating high school in 2015 I decided to pursue my dream and attend The Aveda Institute in Dallas. The experience was one I will never forget and made me even more fired up to be a part of such an amazing and creative industry. I started my career at Heath Salon and Spa. After furthering my experience and education there I decided to branch out, and become an independent mini salon owner. Doing so has allowed me to learn the ins and outs of running my own business. Everyday is a learning experience and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been very blessed to have The Lord on my side along with my support team full of family and friends. Sometimes it does get overwhelming with everything on my shoulders, but this journey is ongoing and will continue to have its challenges. I cherish everyday getting to do what I love.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Makaela’s Hair Studio – what should we know?
I am a hairdresser and specialize in cut and color. I do a lot of baby lights and balayages. I also love doing bridal hair and makeup. I am most proud of watching my business grow every month. What sets me apart is my participation in continuing education.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Creativity and communication.
