Meet Jami Scull of Jami Scull Photography in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jami Scull.

Jami, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey to becoming a professional photographer has been quite an experience. I actually went to college and became a dental hygienist, practicing in Las Vegas for eighteen years. I never really considered a different career until my daughter was born twelve years ago. After her birth, my life has changed significantly as did my interests. When my daughter was little, I loved capturing her grow. In fact, I loved taking photos of her so much that I decided to go back to college in the evenings and learn more about the art and technique of photography. For my very first project, I took a photograph of my daughter and stepdaughter in their ballet costumes. After I turned it in, my professor asked if I had been doing photography professionally. I laughed and said,” No.” He said, “Well I think we are all going to be working for you one day!” His response was what turned me from working as dental hygienist to becoming a professional photographer. It solidified what was becoming apparent to me. Photography is something that comes naturally to me. I don’t think about it. I just start shooting. In fact, when I do think about it, things usually don’t turn out exactly as I would expect, so I find just capturing life as it is happening is much better than forcing a moment.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think that with every business you have a little of both. If things are always running smoothly, you would never learn anything and life would be rather dull. As an owner of a company, I am continually striving to give my clients the best possible service. To do that, I am always learning new ways of doing things. This includes trying new products and experimenting with technology as things are ever changing. Challenges will still come and go but this teaches us new things, so long as we are willing to learn. I am just thankful that I was blessed with this gift. I love what I do and that I have found my life’s purpose – all in photography! Since I am relatively new to the Metroplex, I am currently focused on broadening my base; having people learn about me and my work. Having them learn that what I can offer as a photographer is unique from others in the field. So far, that seems to be happening! I am truly blessed!

Please tell us about Jami Scull Photography LLC.
God is a big part of my life and my work because without Him I wouldn’t be where I am today. The images I capture could not happen without His presence. He is the one who makes the sky full of fabulous colors and creative cloud patterns. He makes the wind blow at the perfect time and the sun to shine exactly when and where I need thus creating the perfect lighting! I always tell everyone, that I capture these moments in life with my camera, but God is the one who sets the scene flawlessly!

Photography is my passion. It lets me show others how I see them, not how they see themselves in the mirror or in snapshots. We all tend to look at our reflections and focus on what we don’t like or what we want to change. By doing so, we miss how truly beautiful we are! When my clients view their portraits after their sessions & my editing, I get to see the immediate changes in their self-esteem as they view the images. More often than not they start crying while viewing them – tears of pure joy! I know then that my work has been worthwhile and successful. They now see themselves as I see them and more importantly that is how God sees us every day!

My fine artwork holds the same characteristics. I try to show people the beauty that surrounds them daily and in all sorts of ways that generally go unnoticed. What I truly live for is inspiring people to see things differently and showing them all that God has created. One client put it this way…he said, “That my images make him see things differently and appreciate things that are around him that he was taking for granted.”

I find the most success when I can help one person feel better about themselves or to see things is a more positive way. This in when I know that I have done my job as a professional photographer as well being a child of God.

I am most proud of creating a very successful business. I am doing what I love to do including showing the world the beauty of God’s creation.

My clients know me as a woman who can connect with them immediately; finding common ground to make them feel comfortable and relaxed and less inhibited. This allows me to capture the best images of them. More often than not, these will be the best photos they have ever seen. I am also well-rounded as a photographer. I have the ability to capture many different genres. My portfolio includes: commercial work, portraits, personal branding, fine art, sports, equine, food, nature, high school seniors, and boudoir. With twelve years of experience, I can capture anything that steps in front of my lens! Equally as important is the artwork and editing after the photos are taken. My creativity and ability to create extremely sharp, colorful and unique images is what sets me apart from any other photographer in Texas!
