Meet Trailblazer Emily Litton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Litton.

Emily, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since I can remember, I have had an interest in interior and architectural design. While growing up in an up and coming neighborhood, I remember walking around the subdivision with my family looking at all of the new homes being built and I would picture what they would look like when they were finished. To this day, I still love to view different types of homes, especially new construction and remodels. It is inspiring to see how others with a creative idea, design and build a structure with such amazing style and detail. Coupled with my desire to help others and meet new people, real estate had always been in the back of my mind.

After graduating from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, my career path took me elsewhere. I started in retail management and moved on to financial analysis and program management. It wasn’t until after I had a minor health scare, that I realized life is too short and I needed to pursue my dream of becoming a real estate agent. I then bit the bullet, and signed up for classes to get my real estate license. I finished the courses and received my license within a couple of months while working full time as a financial analyst.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road changing career paths. The hardest part was in the beginning when I was working full time while taking real estate classes. Juggling both took a lot of my free time and the added stress was wearing on me. Also, I have faced challenges lately as I am expecting my first child. I sometimes struggle to keep my energy levels up. This type of job requires working around the clock and always being available for my clients. Having a great support system including my amazing husband, helps me overcome these challenges.

My advice for younger women just starting out: FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! Anything is possible if you are truly passionate about it. It will be difficult at first, but if you think of your future goals and about becoming happier in the long run, it will help you get through the rough patches.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lisa Birdsong Real Estate Group at Coldwell Banker – what should we know?
I am a Realtor for Coldwell Banker, and a proud member of the Lisa Birdsong Real Estate Group out of Frisco, Texas. As a real estate agent, I help buyers find the perfect home for them; whether it be their first home or their dream home. I also help sellers list their homes to move on to the next chapter in their lives. Not only will you see me showing houses to clients, hosting open houses, and attending realtor events, but you will also see me volunteering with local charities and participating in community events. I believe that involvement in the community and helping others is the best way to learn about the area, as well as the community’s wants and needs.

What sets me apart from others in this industry, is that I know trust is the most important aspect of my relationships with my clients. I am here to help them every step of the way with integrity and honesty. I also know communication is key. I am always available and will always be available to help my clients with their needs.

I believe that team work makes the dream work! Working on an amazing team like the Lisa Birdsong Group has helped me in so many ways. I have learned from the best and we are all always there to help each other. Not only do we have a great team, but we have amazing contributors helping our clients through the whole process.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
There seems to be a quite a bit of pressure for women in the working world today. We strive to have successful careers, but also have the stresses of our home life to focus on. We all want to be the best mother, spouse, friend, sister, daughter, host, etc. that we can be. Social media has a large part in suggesting we need to do more because others are.

Fortunately in real estate, there are many opportunities and advantages for women to become successful in this industry. It can be a flexible job, it is not labor intense, and women have a more caring and nurturing approach to attract clients to them.
