Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Cann.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Timothy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in the early 90’s as a painter for old homes and apartments in the Philadelphia area. I moved to Dallas in 1996 to be with my then girlfriend (now wife of 18 years). I was a foreman for a large painting franchise for several years. It was during this time that I learned more of the business side of the painting industry while still painting and producing high quality, timely, paint projects. I soon became part owner of the local franchise that I worked for. While this was another learning experience, I soon decided that I could become successful with my own company. I opened PaintMor Painters in 2005. With a solid previous client base, 2 crews of painters that were the best of the best, 2 small kids and a mortgage, I hustled and struggled but so glad I kept after it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles were getting the word out about what kind of painting company I was. In the beginning advertising consisted mostly of door hangers, newspaper ads, and direct mail. These were all costly and time consuming while I was trying to build the business. I often picked up small jobs that I did on my own just to pay the bills. I walked neighborhoods and hung door hangers and left my lettered truck in high traffic parking lots for more exposure. In 2008 with the crash of the market, I often thought about giving up because the odds were so against us. Home painting would be more of a luxury people could live without while they were out of work. But I kept on working to build the business. Failure with two kids and a mortgage was not an option.

PaintMor Painters is a residential and commercial, interior and exterior painting company specializing in repaints. We are a family owned business and run by a previous professional painter with uniformed crews that are insured and experienced to complete the project in a timely, efficient manner for a fair price. We are most proud that the majority of our business comes from repeat customers and referrals from previous clients.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Fairness. I treat every client the same. From the tiny kitchens of a starter home to the large mansion transformations; I treat everyone with the same respect, price, and concern for a high quality paint project. I love getting to know my clients and when they invite me into their home, I want to give them my full attention from start to finish.
