Today we’d like to introduce you to John Ross.
John, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When starting the company in 2000, after working as a store manager at a corporate electronic store, I knew it was going to be tough, however I most certainly had all the skills needed to succeed with all of the training I had received over the years prior. My main focus was on clients as well building my client list. The first thing put in place for our clients is warranty everything, as well warranty other stores work to prove worth and reason to become a client of Car Sounds. With our drive for customer service as well the will to succeed we have become one of the top-rated stores in all of Dallas/Fort Worth. After serving the DFW market for over 17 years, we now have clients following us and referring more and more clients to our store. We pride ourselves in doing things our clients want as well things other store will not, we believe it is the experience we have that allows us to do this. We have put real meaning into our slogan (experience your music). We enjoy doing one of a kind work which has won our company countless awards including world records, 3 first place prizes at the Good Guys car show and many other awards. We have donated our time to charities such as Make A Wish Foundation, Susan G Komen, Dare program, as well many other charity events and foundations. The store is set up for any and all clients also including my kiddos which enjoy coming and helping dad at work, in doing so, kids that come in with parents never get bored either. We offer more services than any other store and help our clients with any needs they may have including auto maintenance, paint & body, computer diagnostics, home/store maintenance being a general contractor we have access to almost anything our clients need. We also own the only tattoo & piercing studio in N. Richland Hills Ink Life DFW specializing in one of a kind including art on canvas with top reviews. After working here for over 17 years making so many great friends out of our clients we have made a home here in North Richland Hills TX that we enjoy every day. By focusing on the happiness of our clients we never have to worry about our wellbeing.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Business was booming better than we had ever expected then the loss of our iconic twin towers as well many of our heroes and citizens which cost our country a great loss as well faith, slowing all business nationwide. We were very worried for a good long while if we could survive the loss of work as everyone nationwide felt. Then the city renovated the main road through North Richland Hills making it hard for folks to get around town slowing business down so much making us work much harder to find other means of income to survive the devastation we seem to constantly have. We had 2 stores for years, the Arlington store was doing well however started going very badly financially only to realize we had an employee stealing every penny coming through the door costing us tens of thousands of dollars forcing the close of the Arlington store, and seeking help from the police as well forensics accounting to prove the theft and where our company funds were going, again almost ruining our ability to continue business. Our clients knew what had happened and constantly came in to check on us and sending us so much work, that we were able to continue doing what we love to do as well what we know best. There are plenty more challenges we have faced yet again we fall back on our founding principles customer service, make folks happy to see you, trust you, believe in you and you will always succeed.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Car Sounds story. Tell us more about the business.
You just never know what’s coming through the door day to day so our ability to adapt to our clients’ needs/wants, from repairing work from other stores to repairing the hood of a big rig that hit a deer on the highway. We specialize in audio systems providing the best surround sound for your car/truck, boat, motor home, motor cycle etc. Another thing we do is fiber glass work, we are known for making one of a kind fiber glass enclosures, panels etc. Clyde James Cycles just commissioned an amp/box and speakers enclosure for a show bike (bicycle) so his client can play music while riding or at a bike show with his bike on display. My favorite statement to our clients is this, all of our enclosures/boxes are made here in the store or in Dallas we do not import from Mexico or China, our hooker audio brand is packaged and assembled in Bonham TX by disabled vets so you’re giving back to Texas vets as well Texas economy, Directed Electronics is the largest manufacturer of auto security located in Vista CA, then there is JL Audio out of Atlanta GA a US manufacture, Kenwood USA Corp. and Metra Electronics. All companies we use have the best warranties in the business and all profits stay in the states to better our Country. We haven’t advertised in years as our clients have done an amazing job with referrals as well gracing us with 5 star reviews online as well our web sites, in doing so we offer all of our clients a military discount on anything purchased as well labor discounts. We save so much in advertising we give it all back to our clients as a thank you. The best of what we do is listen to our clients, I’m told this all the time by clients (I love how Jeff & your staff listen) as well explain everything going above and beyond what’s originally offered.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I definitely feel I have been graced with good luck throughout my life however being honest and happy go lucky you create your own luck when folks are always happy to see you. Especially that we get to do our hobby for a living as well entertaining our guest which we are so good at. most of our clients like to hang out with us while we work which definitely gives us the edge on all of our competition as we become friends with our clients as well never keep them away from their car/truck etc.
