Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Saint.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My cookie decorating journey began in December 2016. I was planning my son’s first birthday and was unsure of the theme, so I got on Pinterest and started looking for ideas. I kept seeing all of these amazing decorated cookies and knew that I wanted to have them at the party. I was not a baker or even really a great cook. I began researching cookie recipes and the type of icing used to decorate them. I learned of royal icing at this time and discovered a whole new inspiring world of cookies (and tutorials) on Instagram. This is how I learned almost everything about cookies that I know today. So many generous and talented women (and men) share cookie decorating information on instagram. I decorated my first cookies for a friends birthday. After that, it was Christmas cookies for my family. My family told me they were delicious and to my surprise they were impressed with my work! I received my first “order” from my sister for my nephew’s second birthday. They were cow cookies. As I was laying in bed one night, I came up with the name Cowtown Cookie Co. It was fitting since we live in Fort Worth, had a little ring to it, and was perfect for my first set of cow cookies. I created an instagram account and posted my first cookies on Jan 6, 2017. I was enjoying my new hobby so much. As a new stay-at-home mom, this occupied my time when my son was sleeping and was a fun little hobby that kept me busy! If there was a holiday, local event or just lunch with friends I made cookies! As I started posting the cookies on my Instagram account, my friends and family took notice. I then started receiving request for cookies, and slowly but surely that brings me to today!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey overall has been a smooth one! There have definitely been obstacles to overcome (some more difficult than others) but I have not let that stop me! I’m a do-it-yourselfer, figure it out and keep going kind of girl. My biggest struggle throughout this entire process has been time management and the whole work/life balance. I have had to learn how much I can take on in a week, while tending to my family’s growing, changing needs. My biggest advice for young women starting their journey is to never stop learning, have big dreams, and set goals! As a cookie decorator, one of my biggest goals was to teach decorating classes. I am happy to say that I have 2 classes under my belt and will continue to offer more in the future!
What should we know about Cowtown Cookie Co.? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I make and decorate sugar cookies for all occasions! I specialize in decorating with royal icing. I have made cookies for wedding showers, baby showers, birthdays, graduations and so much more! I am most proud to say that I am doing what I love and love what I do. 5 years ago, I never would have imagined this is what I would be doing. Going from never baking to the small business I have now, I had no clue how much I was going to love it. It is so fulfilling to have friends, family and acquaintances ask me to be a small part of their special occasion. I try to encompass every aspect of the occasion into my cookies by really getting to know my clients and design cookies that are exactly what they are looking for. I hope to make my cookies one of the most memorable parts of their event.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mom has been a huge inspiration to me through this process. As a creative and small business owner herself, we talk about the ups and downs of our business and ways we can improve. Although we do two totally different things I’ve always been able to go to her when I need help. As far as cookie decorating itself there are a handful of extremely talented and generous women on Instagram that I have become “friends” with and they have inspired me along the way. From answering questions to complimenting my work, they have given me the confidence and motivation I have today.
