Meet Frankie Leonie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frankie Leonie.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I remember sitting in my living room listening to Loretta Lynn records and singing along to Coal Miners, Daughter. We always had western swing playing throughout our house, and that has for sure influenced my music taste and style throughout my life. The first time I sang in front of anyone, other than my parents, was when I was eight years old singing Amazing Grace at a small East Texas Methodist Church. From there, I started taking voice and guitar lessons which naturally led me to want to play shows around town for anybody who would listen.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a singer-songwriter. I tend to lean toward the Americana/Countryside of music because it’s what I grew up listening to. The honesty of that kind of music speaks to me. It’s got real lyrics about real life, real instruments, and voices. I don’t know that there’s a specific reason why I play, other than the fact that it’s the only thing that continues to keep me sane.

My inspiration for writing usually comes from the things happening around me. I only really write when I feel like I have something to write about or something to say. Sometimes a good song can come out when I force it, but I try not to do it that way. I just want to write music about things I care about, whether it’s love, people, dogs, or politics.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
Social media can definitely be a pain in the butt. When Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings were trying to book shows, no one went to look at their Instagram followers or Spotify streams, but today those numbers can be so important. Even though social media can be super frustrating, it’s also an easy way to put yourself out there and connect with people that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
The best way to support any musician is to go to shows and listen to their music. All of my shows and music are posted on my website: Frankieleonie.com or my Facebook and Instagram.
