An Inspired Chat with Eryn Lanaie of Phoenix

We recently had the chance to connect with Eryn Lanaie and have shared our conversation below.

Eryn, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day affect how smooth the rest of my day goes. Most mornings I’m up around 4-5 am, meditating & talking to God. Immediately followed by stretching & my morning supplements before I head off to the gym or a workout class.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey y’all, my name is Eryn Lanaie. I’m a songwriter, recording artist, and author creating work rooted in healing and self-discovery. My brand is unique because everything I share, whether it’s music or writing, comes from my own journey of overcoming struggle and finding alignment.

I’m currently working on releasing my very first healing journal, Dear Little Me, and have several other mini-books in the works. Alongside my music, these projects are all about helping people reconnect with themselves, release what weighs them down, and step into their fullest, most authentic self.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with myself. Once I started to love myself and understand how I treat myself is pivotal for how the world sees me and most importantly how God sees me. I cannot give anything from my cup if I have not overflowed it myself. I cannot give anything to a child or partner until I have overflowed the love and care for myself. In a perfect world everyone wants to be treated HOW they WOULD treat others but forget that people are treating YOU how you are treating YOURSELF. People are viewing YOU through the lens YOU gave them. When you love yourself, people will become uncomfortable treating you unjustly because most people don’t want to intentionally step on a rose & be the cause of the loss of beauty.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that her emotions sometimes are bigger than her little body can contain so it’s okay to cry, and scream and get it out.. you are not crazy or bad.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lies in the music industry is that there’s big money to be paid from music alone. The money is in the brand, the live show performances, the merchandise etc. A label contract or “deal” is a loan. You are better off fixing your credit, applying for business credit and getting a loan from a bank with better interest rates than the “interest” of paying the label back while trying to make a name for yourself at the same time. Your ROI will be bad majority of the time and they have certain controls over your music that in 2025 is blatantly unnecessary. Payola is becoming a thing of the past so if you have good music, it’s always been up to you to find your fanbase and expand your personal brand. Wiz Khalifa & La Russell being two great examples. Nipsey being a supreme example.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Most people misunderstand the basis of my legacy not being music. I am a legend in the making because of my gift to create & heal. That expands across music into workshops, community centers, classes, non-profits, partnerships, wellness collaborations. My legacy is way bigger than music. It spans into mental health, addiction, faith, leading the gospel, & affecting change in the world one industry after another & touching anywhere I’m called to be.
