Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda “Renee” Ambriz.
Hi Amanda “Renee”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Amanda Renee, I am a hair colorist located in Plano. I began my cosmetology training when I was in Highschool through a program that is a part of the Lewisville school district. For about 9 years I worked for a hair company where I specialized in hair coloring and for the last 14 years now I’ve worked for myself having my own business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am definitely a creature of habit so “change” for me is always a struggle. Working for a hair company I learned a lot, I got an amazing hair education through them and met some of my favorite people but I knew I eventually would need to make a change in my career. When the opportunity came up to work for myself, I of course hesitated, but to this day it has been one of the best choices I’ve made!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I decided to specialize in hair coloring when I professionally started doing hair. I learned to do it all in hair school but color definitely was more of an interest to me. I’ve always loved art and being creative! Some of my clients have been with me now for 20+ years and I love that they continue to trust me with their hair, making their crowns beautiful always makes my day! I always try to make sure that every client in my chair, existing or new, always gets seen and heard in what they are looking to get done. Not every client wants/needs the same thing, so every experience is different and clients definitely appreciate it when you take the time to listen to them. I would say that is one thing clients always thank me for, listening to them about their hair needs/wants.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Me, myself, I’m defintely not a risk taker but for others i feel like I’m always encouraging it! Like I said I’m a creature of habit, I like routine, structure, I’m set in my ways and I like having a plan! Probably the biggest risk I’ve taken in my career was leaving working for a company to start over and work for myself. It was scary at first but looking back I’m very happy I took that risk! Starting over to rebuild a clientele, self market/advertise learning a whole new side of “working” was challenging but has been well worth it. I would still be reserved to taking on any risks for myself but advice to anyone I would say do it, go for it! We’re here for a good time not a long time!
