Check Out Amber Monroe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Monroe

Hi Amber, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I grew up in Abilene TX and lived there for 26 years before moving to the DFW metroplex with my husband for more opportunities. I am a mother to three and a home educator as well. I have been a hairstylist, a baker, and business owner, but in everything I do, I always find beauty in the things around me. And when I can’t find it…I create it.

I have always been an artist art heart, but only recently have I started treating my art as less of a hobby and more of a career.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a child, it was always so much easier to throw myself into my art, but once I had children myself, everything kind of came to a standstill, as is the beautiful and complicated nature of motherhood. Once I found my groove however, I finally started painting here and there when I could steal a few minutes for myself. I found it therapeutic as we had endured many issues over the years ranging from health, finances, as well as finding the right tools to care for our special needs son. Along with prayer and leaning on God, painting became a way to bring peace and light to my sometimes uncertain world.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in acrylics on canvas but have recently found great passion and pleasure in adding a mixed media aspect to my works via small jewels and crystal accents. I love all things bling, and this adds an extra special layer that is very much my signature style and sets me apart as an artist.

My favorite piece, “Hope Rises” currently hangs in my living room. It is nearly 5ft tall and 3ft wide with hundreds and hundreds of bling accents that make it shine from any angle in the room. It was my first large piece so it was very exciting to create. The bubbles featured in it represent the hope I have for my son with autism and all that he can achive. (I will have a website set up soon to buy prints and original pieces as well. Stay tuned!)

My most popular and recent work however, is a hand drawn coloring book entitled “Reflections.” It is a coloring book that celebrates body positivity, diversity, and self esteem. Each page has an uplifting affirmation and a beautiful ethnic woman to color. I really wanted to highlight African American hair and natural hairstyles. I’m really proud of it, and glad to do something by hand when so many coloring books nowadays are fully generated by AI. “Reflections” can be found on Amazon via my main link. (I have two other popular coloring books there as well!)

Lastly, I am now offering in person “Paint N’ Pass” parties in the DFW metroplex! During a paint n’pass, participants spend 5-10 minutes at their canvas painting before passing it to the person next to them until everyone has had 2 or 3 opportunities to paint on each piece. The fun is in creating a cohesive piece of art with little touches from every artist at your table. There is great music, light refreshments, and most importantly laughter, fun, and CONNECTION. Perfect for the novice and the experienced, my paint n’pass parties are something you will reminisce about for years. To find out about my upcoming classes, visit my main website!
