Check Out Christy Huh’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Huh.

Christy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Christy Crafted Covers on Etsy in August 2007. At the time, I was a stay-at-home mom looking for something to do that is creative and that could bring in a little income too. I always loved sewing and wanted to sell the items that I sewed. In the beginning, I struggled to find something people actually wanted to buy, and the sales just weren’t coming in. I was about to give up and decided to give it a couple more months, and if nothing changed, I was done.
That’s when my mom suggested I try making tissue box covers. I decided to try this and just like everything else I tried to sell, thinking it would be the same results, and nobody would want them. But that’s when things finally took off and 18 years and over 13,300 sales later, I was proven wrong.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like it has mostly been a smooth road, Etsy has made it easy to sell items online. It helped a lot that I started in 2007, before the market got saturated. Now that I am well establish, my sales are still strong. I do have to balance keeping the quality good but trying to work faster to keep up with demand. I also have struggled with new products trying to perfect them. There is a lot of trial and error with designing a new product.
Probably the hardest part is that I make every single product by hand, by myself. When things get busy, there’s no team to help with orders. Working under deadlines when I’m tired, not feeling well, or just not in the mood is part of the business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create handmade fabric tissue box covers and toilet paper covers that turn everyday bathroom essentials into beautiful décor pieces. I specialize in transforming something most people overlook a plain tissue box or a roll of toilet paper into something that actually adds style to a room. My tissue box covers are designed to fit snugly with unique fabric choices, and my toilet paper covers are one of a kind. What I’m most proud of is building this business from scratch with over 13,300 orders and 4,000+ five-star reviews, all while making every single cover by hand in my sewing studio. The good thing is that my customers aren’t getting something mass-produced. They’re getting something I made myself with over 30 years of sewing experience. When a customer reaches out with a question, they’re not getting a chatbot , they’re getting me. I’m the one sewing their cover, I’m the one packing their order, and I’m the one answering their email, usually within a few hours.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Two of my best-selling products, my toilet paper covers and my ruffle tissue box covers actually came from customer requests. A customer reached out asking if I could design something specific, and I said yes. Listening to my customers has shaped my entire shop, and those two product lines wouldn’t exist without them. Something surprising about me most people who know me through my home decor covers would be surprised to learn that I didn’t start making products for the home, my first products were for babies.
