Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Carr
Hi Destiny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I graduated UNT in 2022 with my degree in Fashion Merchandising, I had no clue what I wanted to do as a career. My last semester in college I interned at a Hair and Makeup Bridal company located in DFW doing their social media. I’ve been a makeup artist for over 7 years but started becoming really consistent with it after I auditioned to be a Makeup Artist for that company May 2022. Since then, I had major growth within the bridal, fashion, editorial, and production industry! I’ve taken great pride over the years in becoming a diverse and inclusive makeup artist. My goal with my career is to be a traveling makeup artist and host masterclasses around the world. I would love to be known as a fashion/editorial artist and to work with major fashion labels for runway work!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing great comes without its obstacles! Building a professional makeup kit is tedious, never ending, and expensive (especially for a newly graduated college student), creating a name for yourself in a highly saturated market, and working/investing on your craft can be strenuous at times. But I wouldn’t trade any of my hardships for the world! As cheesy as it sounds, they truly have made me the artist that I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When I first started in the Beauty industry I would do dance competition makeup for friends or prom/graduation appointments. Since starting bridal makeup in 2022, I’ve ventured off and have explored more avenues. Earlier this year I participated in my first fashion show where I worked with a Head Makeup Artist to create looks for runway models. That was an amazing experience where I felt I could combine both my joys – fashion and makeup artistry. I plan to do more projects like that in the future! I’ve also started working on production sets doing light hairstyling and makeup. Doing production work has been fun and a great learning experience. Being able to see all the behind the scenes it takes to produce a tv show/commercial is interesting!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
When I’m not doing makeup, you can catch me with a romance or thriller book! Nothing better than getting lost in a book! My favorite author right now is Frieda McFadden, her thriller books are unlike any other! I also really enjoy binge watching tv shows. Currently watching The Bear and it is as good as the people say!
