Check Out Geonna Dean’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geonna Dean.

Hi Geonna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I found out I was pregnant while working as a flight attendant for American Airlines, and I remember thinking, “Everything is about to change.” I loved traveling, but I knew in my heart that once my baby arrived, I didn’t want to miss the everyday moments. I wanted to be present. I wanted flexibility. However, I didn’t want to lose myself completely in motherhood. I still wanted something that felt like me.

Creativity has always been part of who I am. I’ve been the designated party planner in my family for years, and my mom taught me everything she knew about celebrating people in meaningful ways. I’ve always believed that milestones, big or small, deserve to feel special.

In October 2024, I decided to take a leap and created Milestones Made Perfect, my balloon decor business, here in the Dallas area. I didn’t have a big plan, just a passion and a desire to build something that would allow me to stay home with my child while still pursuing what I love. I started by decorating for friends and family, but within just three weeks, my November and December were fully booked. The encouragement and referrals from other local moms and small businesses gave me the confidence to keep going.

When I took maternity leave in June 2025, I was honestly scared. I worried that stepping away would mean starting over. But when I came back in October 2025, my business picked up right where I left off and it hasn’t slowed down since. I’ve gone from intimate birthday parties in neighbors’ homes to large corporate events and even decorating for huge brands like Dunkin’ Donuts. Every event reminds me why I started.

Being a mom has actually made me a better business owner. I understand how meaningful celebrations are because I’m living those milestones in real time. My business isn’t just about balloons, it’s about helping other families and businesses in our community celebrate moments they’ll never get back.

What began as a way to stay home with my baby has turned into something I’m deeply proud of. Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship isn’t always easy, but building something meaningful while raising my child has been the most rewarding journey of my life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Starting a business while becoming a first-time mom comes with a unique set of challenges. There were days I was answering client messages during nap time, building installations while running on very little sleep, and questioning whether I could truly balance both roles well.

One of my biggest fears was consistency, especially taking maternity leave so early in my business. I worried that stepping away would cause everything I worked for to slow down. Letting go, even temporarily, was hard. As entrepreneurs, we feel like if we’re not constantly pushing, things will fall apart.

There have also been real, in-the-moment challenges that tested me. I once arrived for a grand opening installation and realized the client hadn’t updated me with the new address. The event had been moved 10 minutes up the road, and I had an entire outdoor setup ready to go. I had to quickly break everything down, transport it, and rebuild under time pressure. I finished just in time before guests arrived. Moments like that are stressful, but they remind me that adaptability is everything in this industry.

On top of that, I’ve had to learn the business side like pricing properly, managing inventory, handling last-minute changes, navigating weather for outdoor installs, contracts, insurance, taxes. All while learning how to be a mom.

But every challenge has forced growth. I’ve learned to stay calm under pressure, to problem-solve quickly, and to trust myself. Motherhood has actually strengthened my resilience. It’s taught me patience, perspective, and how to operate with purpose.

The road hasn’t been perfect, but every obstacle has shaped me into a stronger business owner and a more confident mom.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in custom balloon installations and event styling for both private celebrations and corporate events. While balloons are my medium, what I truly create are experiences. Whether it’s a first birthday in someone’s home or a grand opening for a business, I approach every event with the same level of care and creativity.

I’m known for clean, elevated designs that feel customized rather than cookie-cutter. I love incorporating brand colors for corporate clients and creating soft, cohesive palettes for family milestones. I pay close attention to detail, from quality balloon brands to structure and durability, especially for outdoor installations here in Texas where weather can be unpredictable.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. Many of my bookings come from referrals, which tells me people not only love the final product but also the experience of working with me. I prioritize communication, professionalism, and reliability. Beautiful decor means nothing if the process feels stressful.

What sets me apart is the heart behind my work. As a mom, I understand how meaningful these milestones are. I’m not just showing up to install balloons, I’m helping create the backdrop to memories families and businesses will carry with them for years. I blend creativity with organization and problem-solving, which allows me to handle both the artistic and logistical sides of events confidently.

At the end of the day, I want my work to feel joyful, polished, and effortless even if there’s a lot happening behind the scenes to make it that way.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to take away, it’s that you don’t have to choose between being a present parent and pursuing your dreams. It may not look traditional, and it may not be easy, but it’s possible.

Starting my business during such a transformative season of life taught me that growth and fear often show up together. If you’re waiting to feel “ready,” you might be waiting forever. Sometimes you just have to start, even if it’s small.

I’m incredibly grateful for the Dallas community that continues to support local businesses and allow creatives like me to turn passion into purpose. I hope my story encourages other parents to believe they can build something beautiful too, in business and at home.
