Check Out Hannah Riley-Murphy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Riley-Murphy.

Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has been the single consistent thread throughout my life. It was my first outlet, my sanctuary, and the tool that helped me navigate profound adversity from a very young age.

After losing my father to a courageous six year battle with cancer when I was just twelve, and navigating moving out on my own at seventeen, survival mode naturally took over. When you are focused entirely on working to build a stable foundation, your creative passions can be pushed to the back burner.

The real turning point came when I became a mother. Looking at my daughter, I knew she deserved a mother who chased her dreams despite adversity.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a road marked by steep climbs, but every obstacle has ultimately shaped my fire and my discernment. My biggest challenge was transitioning from a survival mindset to a place of growth. When you spend years just trying to survive your environment, art feels like a luxury you can’t afford.

In my mid twenties, I had to choose to leave a situation that wasn’t serving me, trust my intuition, and learn to never settle for less than what I deserve. Shortly after, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. Navigating that while raising a toddler and building a creative business requires an immense amount of grace.

But watching my father fight cancer fiercely, and watching my beautiful mother support him through it taught me to carry their spirit and fire throughout my own battles. God does not punish us, and the only way out of a storm is through it.

Creating has been the vehicle that allows me to do just that- persevere, heal, and intentionally build a life of joy where there used to be darkness.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a multifaceted artist, and my work spans several mediums including freehand murals, watercolors, acrylics, detailed linework, and digital design. Rather than confining myself to a single tool, I choose the medium that best captures the emotion of the piece.

Because I have known adversity, I am dedicated to creating pieces that bring light, hope, and healing into a space.

I am most proud of the mural I recently completed for my daughter’s bedroom, as well as the fact that my art is gaining traction and connecting with a wider audience online. My work is a physical manifestation of an intentional choice to step outside my comfort zone, trust my intuition, and leave a little bit of joy where I can.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways to support my work or collaborate with me. For larger projects, I am available for residential freehand mural commissions, specializing in spaces like kids’ bedrooms, nurseries, and accent walls.

On a smaller scale, I take commissions for traditional art pieces like custom watercolor and ink pet portraits, and I regularly design digital illustrations and original artworks.
