Check Out Jacqueline Denson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Denson.

Hi Jacqueline, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up as a little girl in South Los Angeles, I learned early on the value of resilience, hard work, and determination. My family and I eventually relocated to Ohio, where I continued discovering who I was and what I was passionate about. One thing that always remained constant was my love for hair. I was also deeply inspired by my father, an entrepreneur who owned his own business. Watching his drive, discipline, and mindset motivated me to strive for success in everything I pursued. He constantly poured into me and reminded me that I was capable of building the life I wanted.
After graduating high school, I attended Bowling Green State University, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree. While in college, I continued providing hairstyling services on the side to make extra money, but it was always much more than that to me ,it was my passion. My desire to work in hair also came from personal experiences growing up and wanting to help others feel confident and cared for in ways I didn’t always experience myself.
In 2018, I made a life-changing decision to move to Dallas completely on my own after receiving a job offer. I had no family here and didn’t know anyone, but I took a leap of faith. During that transition, hairstyling became more than a side hustle, it helped me build community, stay grounded, and create additional opportunities for myself while adjusting to a new city independently. Hair has always been my first love.
Today, I work full-time as an HR professional while still dedicating time to my passion as a hairstylist on weekends at SASA Salon and Spa located in Frisco, TX. The salon is a one stop shop that welcomes and serves everyone, regardless of background or hair texture. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come ,not only as a professional in the corporate world, but also as someone who has continued to pursue and grow my passion in the beauty industry. My journey has taught me that you don’t have to choose between stability and passion; with faith, hard work, and persistence, you can build a life that honors both.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. I often felt like I was giving a lot of myself while trying to build stability, especially after moving to a new city on my own and starting over without family nearby.

In 2024, I earned my cosmetology license. Balancing school with working full time required a lot of sacrifice and took both a financial and emotional toll on me.

Although it was challenging, those experiences made me stronger and more resilient. They taught me discipline, perseverance, and how to keep pushing forward even through uncertainty.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a cosmetologist, I specialize in natural hair care, with a focus on silk presses and extension services. I’m most known for creating a comfortable, welcoming experience where clients feel safe, heard, and confident in the process.

Many of the people I work with have had negative experiences in the past, so my main priority is building trust and making sure each client feels understood and cared for. Customer service is at the core of everything I do, regardless of the service being provided.

What sets me apart is that I truly understand what it feels like to be on the other side of the chair. Because of that, I’m intentional about creating a positive, professional, and reassuring experience every time. I’m most proud of being able to help people not only look good, but also feel comfortable and confident in their hair journey.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Definitely my parents and sister, who have been my biggest inspiration and strongest supporters. They consistently poured confidence into me and reminded me that I can achieve anything I set my mind to.

I’m also grateful for my beauty school friends, Nataskia and Taz , who supported and encouraged me both during school and after graduation. Their motivation and friendship played a big role in my journey.

My college bestfriend, Morgan , also kept me grounded and motivated, always pushing me to keep going during different seasons of growth. I’m also thankful for my friends Cece and Tammy, who have been a steady source of encouragement as well.
