Today we’d like to introduce you to Katia Perez.
Hi Katia , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always loved beauty and makeup ever since I was a little girl, but I never imagined it would eventually become my career. I moved from a small town to Dallas, leaving behind my family, friends, and everything I was familiar with. Starting over in a new city where I knew nobody was definitely scary, but it also pushed me to grow.
Over the years, I tried different side hustles because I always wanted to build something of my own and create an income for myself. Life had other plans though. After becoming a first-time mom, I found myself putting dreams on hold and starting over more than once. There were seasons where I had to focus on motherhood and simply figure things out one step at a time.
Even through all of that, I always found myself coming back to beauty. Makeup had been something I loved since I was a little girl, and one day I finally decided to give it a shot. Looking back now, I honestly wish I would have done it sooner because I truly feel like I found what I was meant to do.
What started as a passion eventually grew into Pink Glamour Artistry. Since then, I’ve expanded into hairstyling as well, and today I get to do what I love by enhancing the beauty God has already created and helping women feel beautiful and confident during some of the most special moments in their lives. I’m still growing, still learning, and balancing motherhood along the way, but I’m grateful for every part of the journey that brought me here.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Moving to Dallas and leaving behind everyone I knew was hard, and becoming a first-time mom brought a completely new set of responsibilities. There were times when I had to put my dreams on hold, start over, and learn how to balance motherhood while trying to build something for myself.
I’m naturally a very shy person, and for a long time I allowed fear to hold me back. There were so many things I wanted to do, but self-doubt and fear often got in the way. Starting a business without a big support system and trying to put myself out there wasn’t easy, especially for someone like me.
But through it all, God has always been at the center of my life and my business. There came a point where I had to surrender all of my worries, fears, and uncertainties to Him. Looking back now, I can truly say that God held my hand every step of the way and guided me to the path I was supposed to take. He reminded me that I didn’t have to carry everything on my own and that His plans were bigger than my fears. My husband has also been my biggest supporter and pushes me everyday to do what he knows I can do. Continuously invests in me so that I can build my dream. I owe so much to my mother in law. Because of her I’m able to even do what I love. She helps take care of my daughter and truly supports me and my dreams. She’s like a second mom to me and the closes thing I have.
Every challenge taught me something, and although the journey hasn’t been perfect, I’m grateful for every challenge because it shaped me into the person I am today and helped build Pink Glamour Artistry into what it is becoming. I’m still growing, still learning, and trusting God every step of the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Pink Glamour Artistry, I offer both makeup and hairstyling services for brides, quinceañeras, and all types of special events. One thing I love about makeup is that there really are no limits. Whether it’s a natural look, full glam, something creative, or simply enhancing your features while still looking like yourself, I enjoy it all. I genuinely love a challenge, and being able to bring my clients’ visions to life is one of my favorite parts of what I do.
I would say I’m known for creating luxury makeup looks that are long-lasting, skin-like, and designed to hold up all day and night. My focus is always on making sure my clients feel beautiful and confident while still looking like themselves. I want their makeup to feel lightweight, look flawless in person, and stay fresh for hours without losing its beauty.
One thing I’m most proud of is how much I’ve grown. Starting this business as a first-time mom and stepping outside of my comfort zone wasn’t easy. Seeing how far I’ve come and being trusted to be part of some of the most important moments in my clients’ lives means so much to me.
What truly sets me apart is the love I have for what I do and the experience I strive to give every woman who sits in my chair. I’m naturally a shy person, but once I’m behind my chair, I genuinely love connecting with women and helping them feel beautiful inside and out.
As women, and especially as moms, we spend so much time taking care of everyone else that sometimes we forget to pour into ourselves. We forget how beautiful we are because we’re so busy being everything for everyone else. Being able to remind someone of their beauty and seeing their confidence come alive when they look in the mirror is what makes me happiest.
For me, this has never been just about makeup or money. I truly love what I do. Seeing my clients smile, feel confident, and leave feeling like the best version of themselves is what makes it all worth it. At the end of the day, I want every woman who sits in my chair to feel comfortable, cared for, and reminded of just how beautiful she already is.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’ve never been the most outgoing person. I’m naturally shy, so networking used to feel intimidating for me. But I’ve learned that sometimes it’s just about showing up, staying consistent, and being willing to connect in small ways. Over time, those small moments can turn into real relationships.
One of the biggest examples of that in my life is my friendship with Genesis Casillas (@Gencaslillashair). We connected through a simple message, and she has truly been one of the most important people in my hairstyling journey. She has taught me so much, believed in me from the beginning, and never expected anything in return. Even on the days I wanted to give up on hair, she has been the one encouraging me to keep going. We now work together, and I genuinely owe a lot of my growth in that area to her.
Experiences like that have shown me that while the beauty industry can sometimes seem competitive, there are still genuine people willing to help and support others.
My advice would be to stay humble, stay consistent, and take things step by step even when you’re shy or unsure. I’m still learning every day, but I’ve realized that consistency and staying true to yourself will open more doors than anything else.
