Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyric Iman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story begins at age 2, when my mother discovered the tender gift of singing that dwelled within me. She began to teach me the Gospel song
“Encourage Yourself” that would fuel my love for Gospel music and Christ Jesus at a very young age. Not long after discovering this gift, my mom introduced me to the children’s worship ministry at church which exposed me to sharing this God given gift on a large platform of thousands within our church congregation. From then on, Ive remained faithful to ministry and have pursued artistry by taking Gospel music outside of the four walls of the church. I released my first Neo-Gospel EP “Becoming Iman” in December of 2025, merging the beautiful story of Jesus’ love for us on The Cross with Neo Soul melodies.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Remaining faithful to music and ministry has not been smooth sailing. As a young, African-American woman who loves Jesus in a world that evidently hates Him, there were times where conforming to societal pressures, abandoning Gospel music, and altering my craft to accommodate the sinful desires of the world felt like the only way to be received and accepted as an artist. I found myself dabbling into R&B and Neo Soul music in high school as a response to these pressures. But Jesus tugged on my heart and reminded me that The Gospel must be preached to the ends of the earth, even if the world rejects it. This loving reminder from Him guided me back to creating Gospel music only, abandoning the R&B themes that didn’t glorify Christ.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Christian singer-songwriter and recording artist with the sole agenda of spreading The Gospel of Jesus Christ through non traditional sounding Gospel and Christian music. I am most known for contributing to a fairly new music genre called Neo-Gospel that has strongly resonated with those who do not claim the Christian faith, along with those who do. I specialize in capturing my personal testimony, faith journey, and encounters with Jesus through song in a way that doesn’t require you to be a believer to relate to and understand. It is humbling to know that my music is reconciling a generation back to Jesus in a way that was once shunned on by The Gospel industry. I firmly believe that the Neo Soul sound is what draws people in and that the meaningful lyrics is what pierces the heart and leaves people transformed. Being apart of a minuscule music genre alone sets me apart and allows me to stand out.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something many who support me may not be aware of, is that writing, recording, and producing Gospel music was not something I intended on pursuing as a career, despite my long term history of ministry. I desired to pursue a career strictly in R&B and Neo Soul until The Holy Spirit specifically convicted me not to sing secular music on public platforms in August of 2025.
