Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Morgan & Marissa Hercules.
Hi Mallory Morgan & Marissa Hercules, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We are sisters, Texas natives and co-founders of The Curly Spoon, a food and recipe blog we started in May 2021. Food has always been a big part of our lives, and over time, our love for cooking, baking, photography and creating brought us to the idea of starting something together. The Curly Spoon began as both a creative outlet and a business venture, giving us a place to share recipes, develop our skills and build something that fit into our lives as women, moms and creatives. What started as a simple idea has grown into a brand centered around approachable recipes, beautiful food content and helping people feel more confident in the kitchen. We’re still learning and growing as we go, but it has been really rewarding to see something we built together continue to take shape.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road, but we’ve learned a lot through the process. Building a business from the ground up comes with a lot of trial and error, especially when you’re learning things like recipe development, photography, SEO, social media, website management and the business side all at once. There have been seasons where growth felt slow or we had to push through discouragement, rejection or the feeling that we were figuring everything out as we went. At the same time, those challenges have taught us to be persistent, flexible and willing to keep learning. We’ve found that a big part of building something meaningful is simply continuing to show up, even when progress feels small.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Curly Spoon is a food and recipe blog with a focus on desserts, brunch and party foods, the kind of recipes that make people feel like they really nailed it in the kitchen. We focus on recipes that are approachable but still feel fun, creative and beautiful. We handle everything ourselves, from developing and testing the recipes to the food styling, photography and writing that helps bring each recipe to life. I think what sets us apart is the combination of creativity and practicality. We love beautiful food, but we also care about making sure the recipes feel doable for real people in real kitchens. We’re most proud of creating a space that encourages people to gather, celebrate and make memories through food.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Persistence has probably been one of the most important qualities for us. There is so much about building a blog and business that takes time, and it can be easy to feel discouraged when you do not see immediate results. We’ve had to learn to keep going, keep improving and keep believing that the small, consistent efforts matter. Curiosity has also been a big part of our growth because we are always learning something new, whether it’s a better way to photograph food, improve a recipe or reach the people who would enjoy what we’re creating. More than anything, we’ve learned that success usually comes from a willingness to keep showing up and growing along the way.
