Check Out Mallory Woods’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Woods.

Hi Mallory, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
From the time I was able to pick up a camera, I loved being both in front of it and behind it. I remember filming silly home videos with my sisters growing up and putting on “shows” in the living room for my family and friends to see. As I got older, I got a little shy but still secretly enjoyed and truly missed making videos, taking pictures, and sharing things that I created with my “audience.”

I started watching Ryan Higa known as “NigaHiga” on YouTube when I was in middle school. YouTube has definitely grown since the mid-2000s but it was something I had always aspired to do one day.

When I got into High School and even into college one of my all-time favorite YouTubers was Bethany Mota. She did anything and everything from DIY projects and baking to fashion and beauty, which was right up my alley. Again, I still had this itch to start making videos, I just didn’t know what my “niche” would be and was honestly afraid of the “haters.”

In college, I dabbled in a DIY blog, which was very short-lived. I eventually turned over to Instagram but I wasn’t very consistent and still very scared to put myself out there because I was afraid of judgment.

December of 2020 during the pandemic was when I decided to not worry about what people might think and go for what makes me happy. If my friends and family didn’t support that then they weren’t true friends.

I got my first collaboration with Love Street at the end of 2020. I reached out to several other brands and got several “no’s” and some just flat out ignored me. This was really discouraging but I knew this is something that would take time.

I was still not very consistent but once Instagram introduced “reels” I found out really quickly that this was the fastest way to grow my audience. After making a few reels that reached 10-20k views I gained probably 200 new followers during the summer months of 2021. 200 followers may not sound like a lot to the bigger influencers, but it was a lot for someone who was just getting started.

As I kept making videos and posting photos, I had people asking me if I would ever consider YouTube. I made my first YouTube video in February of 2021. It was a quick little vlog of me taking pictures in the snow (which it never does here in Fort Worth so I had to document it). I didn’t post another video for about 6 months and I was surprised at how many people LOVED my videos! I was so scared to put myself out there thinking everyone would make fun of me, but little did I know I actually had a small, but present audience!

Although I am not considered a “BIG” influencer (yet) I have reached 90k monthly views on my Pinterest, and my Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube channel have started to really grow over the past few months.

This has led me to working with brands such as Amazon. If you follow me on my socials, you might notice I have been promoting a lot of Amazon Fashion… That is because I am now getting paid to post about Amazon! I feel like I am living a dream.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not… I am a full-time teacher so everything I do is “on the side.” Finding time to create content and post on all my social accounts while working full time is HARD. But nobody said it was going to be easy and I knew this going into it. Social media is all about consistency but it is also a lottery. All it takes is one viral video to set you over the top. I’m still waiting on one of my videos to pop off.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a content creator who specializes specifically in Amazon Fashion but I would like to eventually branch out into some lifestyle content too. I think working with Amazon is one of my biggest accomplishments. I’m still at the low end of the totem pole as far as being an “influencer” and working with Amazon, but I will say it is still a pretty cool feeling to say I get paid by Amazon when people buy the products, I promote for them!

I think what sets me apart from others is just my style in general. Everyone has their own style and their own unique catch, but I pride myself in keeping up with the trends but also being very affordable and easy to recreate.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
So, I know I talked about Amazon a lot but I am always open to other collaborations with other brands both big and small! I absolutely LOVE working with small local brands here in DFW so if you are in the market for a content creator, social media influencer, or even a product photographer (my other side hustle) I’d love to connect and support y’all in any way!
