Check Out Marisol Martinez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisol Martinez.

Hi Marisol, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, where I was surrounded by a family that deeply valued creativity and artistic expression. From an early age, I was immersed in music, dance, and visual arts—playing the violin, taking folklórico dance lessons, and exploring my creativity through drawing. My connection to flowers began long before I realized it, rooted in quiet moments spent in my father’s garden and family visits to the Botanical Gardens—experiences that left a lasting impression and gently shaped my creative perspective.

Before fully embracing floral design, I built a career in finance, mortgage, and litigation, where I developed a strong foundation in management, structure, client relationships, and attention to detail. While seemingly different worlds, those experiences instilled in me a sense of discipline and intention that now carries over into every aspect of my work.

A pivotal shift came during the pandemic—a time that invited reflection, loss, and reconnection. During this period, I was mourning the unexpected passing of my dear father, whose love for flowers and nature had always been a meaningful part of my life. In the midst of that heartbreak, I found myself returning to flowers as a source of comfort and expression. Surrounding myself with them brought a sense of peace and closeness to him, as they had always reminded me of his presence and the beauty he cherished. Through this experience, I discovered the profound healing power of flowers—not only in my own journey, but in their ability to bring light and solace to others. What began as something deeply personal soon evolved into a calling, leading me to establish Sweets De Sol Creations and, ultimately, Fleurs De Sol Floral Design.

Today, my work is centered on crafting elevated, romantic, and modern floral experiences for weddings and events. I approach each design with a thoughtful, artful intention—seeking not only to complement a setting, but to evoke emotion and create an atmosphere that lingers long after the moment has passed. For me, floral design is more than aesthetics; it is about storytelling, connection, and transforming life’s most meaningful celebrations into something truly unforgettable.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning, one of my greatest challenges was finding my footing in an entirely new world—one I chose to step into wholeheartedly, guided by a deep desire to create and follow my heart through design. It required me to learn a new language of artistry—composition, line, form, and structure—along with the technical mechanics behind each creation.

My studies with the New York Institute of Art and Design laid the foundation for my journey, but it was through real, hands-on experience that my artistry truly began to take shape. Being immersed in the creative process—working with flowers in real time, navigating the energy of events, and refining each detail—allowed me to grow in a way that no classroom alone could offer.

Along the way, I was fortunate to be welcomed by incredibly talented floral designers who so generously shared their knowledge and opened their spaces to me. Their mentorship was invaluable, not only in refining my technique, but in shaping the way I approach my work—with thoughtfulness, emotion, and a deep appreciation for timeless, intentional design.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a certified floral designer; however, I view certification not as a declaration of mastery, but as a reflection of my commitment—to both my craft and my clients. It represents a continued dedication to growth, to education, and to ensuring that I am consistently evolving in order to bring the most current, refined, and elevated designs to those I serve. I specialize in floral design for weddings and events, where each piece is thoughtfully curated to reflect both beauty and intention.

Throughout my journey, I have had the privilege of working alongside an extraordinary community of floral designers in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, including contributing to the world renowned Fleurs de Villes “Artiste” floral exhibition when it made its debut at NorthPark Center Mall in 2024 and 2025. Being selected to participate in such a globally recognized floral showcase was both an honor and a defining moment in my career.

My work has also extended beyond the U.S., opening the door to destination weddings in breathtaking locations such as Italy and Paris, in collaboration with Avila Weddings. These experiences have deepened my perspective as a designer and allowed me to create within diverse and inspiring settings.

Above all, I cherish the unwavering support I have received from my husband, family, and friends—this journey would not have been possible without their constant love, support, respect, and encouragement.

In addition, I am truly grateful for the community I have encountered and have become a part of along the way. The passion, artistry, and generosity of those I have worked with have left a lasting impression on me. Their influence continues to shape not only my work, but the way I approach this craft—with purpose, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the beauty we create together.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
From a young age, I was immersed in a world of creativity—surrounded by a talented family of musicians and artists all which played a meaningful role in shaping who I am today.

I am deeply grateful to my parents for cultivating my appreciation for the arts and for their constant encouragement throughout my journey. My mother, in particular, played an instrumental role in shaping my perspective—instilling in me an early love for fashion and a thoughtful approach to personal presentation. She often reminded me to always put my best foot forward—not in a material sense, but as a reflection of care, intention, and self-respect. That lesson has remained with me, shaping how I carry myself both personally and professionally.

Perhaps the most meaningful gift my mother gave me was leading by example in how to treat others. She lived by a basic bible principle, what is often referred to as the “Golden Rule”—to treat others the way you want to be treated. Through her, I learned the quiet strength and beauty of compassion, selflessness, and grace. It is a principle I hold close and strive to embody each day, and one for which I will always be profoundly grateful.
