Check Out Matthew Gallagher’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Gallagher

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The Comedy Virgins started among three best friends from Westbrook, Connecticut. Griffin and Jay have practically been friends since birth. Matt on the other hand, took a little longer to warm up to. Through countless experiences in high school to a summer job we worked together in college, The Comedy Virgins began to take shape. Inspired by a mutual fear of pretty ladies and peeing in public, comedy was the only option.

As we left for college, distance became an obstacle for our group, but through various trips and countless experiences, we grew stronger together. Eventually, we overcame distance when Matt and Griff got an apartment together in Fort Worth, Texas. During that time, we began standup comedy and made the decision to create a podcast. Though Jay was in Connecticut, we were able to bring him in virtually as a pillar of the show. The show proceeded like that for two years until Griffin moved to Minnesota in July.

With Griffin moving, the podcast transitioned into a virtual show, with guests that Matt brings on in Fort Worth, Texas. Through various changes that we have experienced over the last 3 years, this show stands as a way to keep the three of us connected while living in three different locations

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been obstacles along the way. From spending every day together in high school to suddenly being hundreds of miles apart, we’ve had to make the distance work to stay connected. Fortunately, we’ve gotten really good at communicating virtually and we all play our part to make this show work. Even while living in different states, we are able to meet every week to record episodes and discuss new ideas. Overall, everything would be a lot easier in person, but we make do with what we have and we’re thankful just to be able to spend time together.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Matt and Griffin are standup comedians. Aside from that, what sets us apart is that we have been friends for over a decade, and we have used that connection to fuel every episode of our podcast. That bond allows us to make unique content with inside jokes and funny stories from our shared life experiences.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson we’ve learned is the importance of communication and understanding the complexities that come from living in three different areas of the country. We have found a balance that works for us, with regularly scheduled meetings and podcast recordings that work under the constraints of our own personal lives. Distance is just a small obstacle if you make it one.
