Check Out Nick Willis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Willis.

Hi Nick, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Nick Willis, better known as Nick McFly. I was born and raised in Oak Cliff, Texas. Growing up there shaped who I am. It taught me resilience, fueled my love for creativity, and showed me how important community is. Where I’m from, not everybody’s journey is easy. One of the hardest moments in my life was losing my mother. That loss changed my perspective and made me realize how precious time is and how important it is to build something that leaves a positive impact.

Later, I faced another major challenge when I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. It was one of those moments that forces you to stop and reevaluate everything. Instead of letting it define me, I chose to fight through it. That experience gave me a deeper appreciation for life and reminded me that every day is another opportunity to keep pushing toward my purpose.

Through all of those highs and lows, creativity has always been my outlet. I’ve always loved music, storytelling, photography, fashion just being creative in every way possible and bringing people together. That passion led me to create Indigo Talk, a platform that shines a light on creatives and gives people a space to share their stories. It also inspired an event I’m launching called Indigo Fest, where artists can perform, connect with new audiences, and feel like they’re part of something bigger.

I’m still building my vision, but everything I do comes from a desire to create opportunities, inspire others to keep going no matter what they’ve faced, and prove that where you come from doesn’t have to determine where you end up. I’m also the oldest of ten siblings, and that’s one of my biggest motivations. I want them to look at my journey and know that no dream is too big. If they can see their big brother chase his vision despite the obstacles, I hope they’ll believe they can do the same.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. One of the biggest obstacles I had to overcome was myself. Growing up, I was still figuring out who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do with my life. One thing I did know was that every day after school I’d rush home to watch 106 & Park. I loved what it represented and what it did for the culture, and I knew I wanted to be part of creating something that could have that kind of impact.

Of course, life isn’t always that simple. As a teenager, you’re surrounded by people who may not believe in your vision and influences that can pull you in different directions if you’re not careful. Looking back, I realized that no one could stop my dreams from happening except me.

The biggest challenge wasn’t proving other people wrong it was staying committed to discovering who Nick is and having the courage to become that person. Once I understood that, everything started to change.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the founder and host of Indigo Talk, a creative platform built to spotlight artists, entrepreneurs, and visionaries while creating meaningful conversations that inspire people to chase their own dreams. Through interviews, live events, and community-driven experiences like Indigo Fest, my goal is to give creatives a space where they can be seen, heard, and celebrated.

What I’m most proud of is building something from the ground up that brings people together. Watching artists connect, support one another, and gain new opportunities through a platform I created is incredibly rewarding. Seeing a vision that started as an idea become a reality reminds me why I do this.

I think what sets me apart is that I’m not focused on building a platform just for myself I’m focused on building a community. I genuinely enjoy creating opportunities for others to showcase their talents, tell their stories, and make meaningful connections. My mission is to create a culture where creativity, collaboration, and authenticity come first, because I believe that’s how lasting impact is made.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that surprises people is that I’m actually pretty camera shy and naturally quiet. Most people assume that because I host a podcast and interview people, I’m always the loudest person in the room, but that’s really not me. Outside of hosting Indigo Talk, I’m more of a listener than a talker.

I think that’s actually one of my strengths. Because I enjoy listening and observing, I’m genuinely interested in people’s stories. My goal isn’t to be the center of attention it’s to create conversations where other people feel comfortable enough to share who they really are.

Stepping in front of the camera wasn’t something that came naturally to me. It was something I had to grow into because I believed in the vision. Every interview, every event, and every episode pushes me a little further outside of my comfort zone, and I’m proud of that growth.
