Check Out Proenka Roque’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Proenka Roque.

Hi Proenka, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My very first glimpse of Arts was crafting. You know the usual stick the googly eyes onto the construction paper cutouts. Once my parents began to notice my interest they %100 encouraged it. My dad would purchase art supplies on some weekends for my siblings and I and would paint alongside us. My mom years prior an arts and crafts instructor created the most amazing things and would teach you just how to make them. I was definitely allowed to be a kid even when it meant ruining some of mom’s kitchen plates with paint.

When I turned 8, I took a huge interest in creating my own cartoon characters, comics. By 14 I was painting on everything mostly that of nature and pop art. During high school, I took an interest in trying new art mediums. In college began creating my social media art accounts. Did several #100daychallenges in the span of a year. I’d post a daily notebook sketch it started to take of from there. Now I spend my days painting from my art studio and I wouldn’t want it any other way I contribute my success to the unconditional support received.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My mom was everything I aspired to be but sadly she passed days from my 15th Birthday. It was without a doubt the hardest thing I’ve endured. I can still recall creating jewelry alongside her, knitting with her and it felt as if my identity had been stripped…she was my muse. From that point on, I learned just how fragile life can be. I’m beyond grateful for all she taught me. Believe the reason why my imagination and artistry didn’t diminish from that point on was because that’s how I choose to keep her memory alive.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I consider myself a Creative Artist because I’m passionate about many things especially those that capture the quality of my work. I’m most known for my custom portraits which I’ve been doing for almost 2 years now. I’ve had the privilege of painting over 100 portraits and each tells a story and hold a place near and dear to their loved once hearts. I truly know that feeling, will always trying to create the best experience possible for my clients for instance recording the process of their painting. My proudest moment has to be once the portrait is finally in their hands you can only imagine the level of excitement. They often express just how much the painting means to them and their families, that makes me beyond happy.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
This has been a challenging time as it’s been for many others. I’ve had to learn to keep afloat my small business in very unpredictable times. I’ve been blessed with great people who for one reason or another have taken an interest, liking to my art which has made it possible.
