Today we’d like to introduce you to Salem E. Rahel Woldezghi.
Hi Salem E. Rahel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I was a kid, I always dreamed of having the freshest sneakers, but I couldn’t afford them back then, and I actually faced a lot of bullying because of it. That moment stuck with me, and as I grew up, I turned that pain into passion, diving into sneaker culture—first as a collector, and now as a creator. As I dove deeper into sneaker culture, it wasn’t just about shoes—it was about belonging. I found a community of people who shared that same love, and that gave me the confidence to start creating, and eventually, building a brand of my own
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always easy—people questioned whether my love for sneakers could really become something more. I faced skepticism, and some even tried to steer me away from it. But every time someone challenged me, it fueled me even more. I kept pushing forward, refining my voice, and building a space where my passion could thrive. Let’s not forget how expensive this passion is LOL
In 2013, I made the difficult decision to part with a significant portion of my sneaker collection in order to fund my education and purchase a reliable car. At the time, it was a painful loss, as sneakers were an integral part of my identity. I had to grow up quickly, prioritizing responsibility over passion. My family, especially as immigrants, didn’t always understand why I invested so much in sneakers. But now, 20 years later, they see the depth of my commitment and how seriously I’ve pursued this passion.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So, as a sneaker bae, I focus on amplifying sneaker culture by curating discussions that showcase the voices and experiences of collectors, designers, and everyday enthusiasts. What sets me apart is this commitment to going beyond just the sneaker—it’s about the stories, the culture, and the impact they have on our lives. I’m most proud that I give a platform to people that might not otherwise be heard in the sneaker world. What really sets us apart is that people often bring up my discussions on their own platforms. Whether it’s podcasts, blogs, or social media, the conversations we spark extend far beyond just one space. I’m really proud that the platform I’m building is helping create this ripple effect in the sneaker world. What I’m most proud of is the community I’m helping built—people feel heard, and they trust Sneaker bae as a person for real sneaker dialogue. I facilitate open discussions about sneakers—bringing together collectors, trendsetters, and everyday fans to share their perspectives. I focus on creating a space where people can have thoughtful conversations about the culture, design, and meaning behind their favorite kicks
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Absolutely. I would say stay consistent and stay curious. When I started, I wish I knew how important it was to just show up, even when progress felt slow. And don’t be afraid to reach out to others in the community—those connections make a world of difference. Keep the conversation going, stay true to your passion, and don’t rush the process… and your loudest haters be your truest fans 😂😂😂
