Check Out Shante Parker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shante Parker.

Hi Shante, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi I’m Shanté. I’ve been doing hair and makeup for 10years now. I graduated from Paul Mitchell the school Chicago back in 2016 as a licensed cosmetologist. The school was filled with so much inspiration. Connecting us with real life experiences like working local fashion shows , different community events and everyday clients. Before graduation I began working as an assistant stylist at a full service salon. I quickly learned that I really enjoyed the exciting environment of fashion and film more so I took a leap of faith and began networking in the entertainment industry ; starting with local students at Columbia college.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it has not been a smooth road! The road to success is never linear and when you pair that with normal life challenges it can be discouraging at times but it’s all about perspective and perseverance.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Hair and Makeup Artist that works freelance within a multitude of different industries. Primarily Bridal, Advertising/Commercial, Fashion/Runway and occasionally Film.

I believe that I am most known for working with different photographers in the city of Chicago . Performing both editorial and commercial work.

I’m most proud of the community that I’ve developed over the years . I really enjoy that many of my colleagues are people that I’ve started the industry with . Watching all of us grow into adulthood and successful artists/ entrepreneurs.

I believe what sets me apart from others is primary my mindset. Im forever a student ! I’m not afraid of falling, I’m not afraid of learning . I enjoy assisting some of the greats that have come before me . I’m forever humble enough to know that there’s always room for improvement.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up …I was what I like to call a hybrid child. A African American woman born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. I had to learn a mixture of survival instincts & artistry. Sheltered away from most of the challenges many others faced from my community did work to my advantage but there were still many impressions and challenges I faced just as a byproduct of my environment.

My balance of creativity comes from my household. My mom worked for Ebony & Jet magazine. My Dad worked as a model . In addition to many creative activities they participated in ; painting , music , makeup/airbrushing , sales and more .

My uncle was a musician who had a band for many years . I was surrounded with the culture of creating. This was my balance and inspiration.

My upbringing shaped me in a way that makes me relatable in many environments. On a surface level I can often confuses people.
