Today we’d like to introduce you to The Coffee Crime Club.
Hi The Coffee Crime Club, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sydney and Aireyon first crossed paths about four years ago working at the same company in the tech industry. What started as a professional connection quickly grew into a genuine friendship — the kind where you’re traveling together, pushing each other forward professionally, and showing up for the bigger moments in life.
The origin story of the podcast actually traces back to a pretty ordinary afternoon in October 2025. Aireyon was helping Sydney with her hair, they had a true crime documentary on in the background, and before long they were deep in conversation, dissecting the case and genuinely having the best time doing it. It was one of those moments that felt effortless.
A few weeks later, on Aireyon’s birthday trip to Belize, the two found themselves having a more honest conversation — about burnout, about the weight of corporate life, and about craving something creative that was truly their own. It was during that conversation that Sydney brought up how much she’d loved that afternoon talking true crime, and how a good cup of coffee always seemed to make everything better. Aireyon’s eyes lit up, and just like that, the idea clicked into place.
The Coffee Crime Club was born — a podcast rooted in two things they already loved, built for people who want a space to explore their curiosities and lean into their passions outside of the day-to-day grind. They were drawn to how niche it felt, especially within their community, and that was never something they ran away from. If anything, it was the point. A place where true crime, good coffee, and real conversation could all exist together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was stepping outside of our comfort zones and putting ourselves on camera, which was something neither of us was really used to. There was a learning curve when it came to creating content, finding our voice, and consistently showing up.
That said, it’s also been an incredibly fun and rewarding journey. Building Coffee Crime Club together has made the experience even more special. We’ve been able to lean into our shared interest in true crime, explore a niche we genuinely enjoy, and connect with a growing community of people who love discussing these cases as much as we do. Seeing that community form and engage with the content has made all of the challenges along the way worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are Podcast hosts and creators of Coffee Crime Club, a podcast where we bring together two things we genuinely love: coffee and true crime. Our goal is to create conversations that are engaging, thought provoking, and approachable, whether someone is a longtime true crime fan or just discovering the genre.
What makes us different is that we’re carving out a unique space that isn’t often represented, especially within the Black community. True crime has traditionally lacked diverse voices, and we wanted to create a platform where people could explore these stories through a fresh perspective while building a welcoming community around them. We are not just discussing cases. We are creating an experience that combines storytelling, conversation, culture, and connection.
What we’re most proud of is building something from the ground up that resonates with people. Seeing listeners engage with our content, join the conversation, and become part of the Coffee Crime Club community has been incredibly rewarding. We’ve also been proud to see the podcast gain traction and create opportunities to collaborate with other creators and brands.
At our core, we’re creative storytellers who aren’t afraid to try something different. We took two niche interests and built a brand around them, creating a space where people can gather, learn, discuss, and connect. That authenticity, along with our unique perspective and commitment to community, is what truly sets Coffee Crime Club apart.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Our biggest piece of advice is to think outside the box when it comes to both mentorship and networking. It doesn’t always look like a formal relationship or a scheduled coffee chat. Sometimes your mentor is someone you meet completely organically because you kept showing up to the same spaces.
Find your people. Seek out communities where people share your vision, your curiosity, and your drive. Whether that’s an event, an online space, a workshop, or even a podcast, put yourself where like-minded people already are and be present when you get there.
We’re a perfect example of that. We weren’t looking for a business partner or a co-host. We were just two people in the same space who connected over shared interests and a shared desire to do something more. That relationship grew into everything we have now with the Coffee Crime Club.
So don’t box yourself into traditional ideas of what networking has to look like. Show up, be genuine, and pay attention to the people around you. The right connections have a way of finding you when you’re in the right rooms.
