Check Out Tim Cook’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Cook.

Hi Tim, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I first started training it was prior to me leaving for Tarleton State after high school. I worked for a youth summer training program and my love for training was sparked back in 2004. I always trained local kids in the neighborhood when I came back during breaks and it was something that just stuck with me. When I was finished with school I started trying to find my path and my way, trying different career fields from childhood development with schools, even at one point wanting to be a firefighter and working dispatch for the city of Plano.

After the dispatch job, I started working at a company called Achieve Physical Therapy where DPT Steve Long saw my passion for training and encouraged me to start my own business within the clinic. After learning under Steve Long I went to work for a company called Performance Course. It was one of the best moves I could of made for my career. I got to see strength and conditioning from a different scope. I was able to work myself into a full time position getting to work with top-tier ISD’s ranging from McKinney, Allen, Highland Park, Flower Mound to name a few. After my departure from Performance Course, I went to work at a company call Performance Medicine and Sports Therapy where I was the Director of Performance and Recovery. I had the opportunity to grow and build a nonexistent dept while working with some really good chiropractors and physical therapist, which is where I met my current business partner Kavon Frazier. I trained Kavon as he was rehabbing with another future business partner Kecia McKenzie who was the head of the physical therapy deparrment. After leaving PMST I went on my own and started my own training business in prosper.

While In prosper, I saw a great opportunity for growth in which I approached Kavon knowing he wanted to start a gym of his own. We came together and formed Built4it Athletics. As we started navigating and growing the business Kecia McKenzie came on board to run our Physical Therapy Dept. Ever since that day we have been blessed with growth and opportunity to become a major player in professional, and youth athletic development along with general fitness. Along with running a gym business I also own a body wipe company called Wash Yo Self that I started with a good friend of mine Monica Pittenger and her two sisters. It’s an essential part of not only my day to day but also for any athlete and parent of athletes that doesnt want to deal with the funk left behind. We have been blessed to make the strides we’ve made and support that we have from or local community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With any business, there is always ups and downs and struggles but from the support of my wife and an amazing GOD that I serve it makes those struggles that much easier to handle. A few struggles was the coronavirus pandemic. We were blessed and fortunate that with us being a smaller gym at the time we could control the amount of people coming in the doors and staying within the regulations of the mandates that we were placed under. A few other challenges is always making sure that we are staying current and creative with our training making sure we are giving our clients and athletes the best product out. As far as our Body Wipe company the hardest part is creating some steam behind the product but we’ve been blessed with the support that we have. Staying patient is key!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a strength and conditioning coach that specializes in Professional (NFL) athlete development. I’m most proud of how big our NFL off season program continues to grow over the years. Being able to be of service to some of the biggest names in the NFL. The biggest thing that I feel sets me apart from others is my vibe and my intention in building relationships. My athletes are more than just athletes. They are fathers, husbands, sons, brothers in Christ. I care more about their life off of the field than on. Don’t get me wrong I want to do everything I can to be a tool to help them perform at their highest ability but who they are as men and leaders is more important to me.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Haha. Well, one thing is that I love anime and still watch cartoons to this day. Craig of the creek is GOATED! I’ve played the violin for 3 years and have a passion for art. One of my biggest things I do for myself is draw I also love going noodling with my friends in Oklahoma! Also that as stated previously I also own a body wipe company that not many people know that I own with some pretty cool people. Built4it also has some pretty exciting changes coming up in the next few months that y’all will have to stay tuned into see!
