Community Highlights: Meet Chef Fee Guimont of OMG Cakes & Southern Best Catering, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Fee Guimont.

Hi Chef Fee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my catering company in 1997, while she was a team lead at

Texas Instruments. Now, as a full-time chef, I find peace

in the kitchen, as it’s her safe haven.

Growing up in Mississippi, I learned how to cook from my aunt, Shug and my Mother. From

that time to now, Felicia has been a driving force by healing people with her food

and taking them back to their childhood with taste. Felicia’s goal with her food is to

bring families back to the table one meal at a time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business came with many challenges. I had no financial support and no clear blueprint for success. I used my paycheck from my full-time job to purchase equipment, buy supplies, and pay staff to help serve clients.

Many people approached me for services and promised exposure to their followers in return. To gain experience and build my reputation, I often reduced my prices or even sponsored events at no charge. While paid opportunities were limited, there seemed to be endless requests for free services and support.

Over time, this took a toll on me financially, emotionally, and professionally. Looking back, I realize I wasn’t valuing my own worth, and I wasn’t setting the boundaries necessary for others to value and respect my work either.

One of the most important lessons I learned as an entrepreneur was that passion alone is not enough—you must also recognize your value and protect it.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up was difficult. I experienced bullying and abuse at a young age. One of my earliest memories of being bullied was when a little boy stabbed me in the hand with a lead pencil. To this day, the mark remains as a reminder of that experience.

Looking back, I can see that many of my ADHD traits went unnoticed. I often struggled to focus in school because classroom noise would distract me, causing me to fall behind at times and attend summer school to catch up. I was also bullied for wearing thick glasses. Wanting so badly to fit in and be accepted, I would often hide my glasses, even though it meant I couldn’t see the chalkboard clearly.

Life was challenging in other ways as well. My family had limited resources, and I didn’t have the clothing or trendy items that many of my peers had. As a teenager, that was difficult to navigate. While others judged me by my appearance and circumstances, they couldn’t see who I truly was inside.

I was a young person filled with kindness, creativity, and love. I had a gift for poetry, a passion for drawing, and a love for baking. Yet there was little encouragement or guidance to help me develop those talents. Many of the gifts I carried within me remained hidden, waiting for the opportunity to be discovered and nurtured.

Despite the challenges, those experiences helped shape my resilience. They taught me that my value was never determined by the opinions of others, but by the unique gifts and purpose that were within me all along.
