Community Highlights: Meet Cynthia Rojas of Minty Synth Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Rojas.

Cynthia Rojas

Hi Cynthia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was growing up, I always dreamt of having a fun and creative career. Fashion design, cosmetology—you name it. Honestly, I didn’t realize interior design was even a career option until I was well into my job as a high school teacher. Yep, I chose the safe route when I completed my undergrad, earning a degree in education with plans to become a counselor someday. I was content with that choice because I’ve always loved working with people.

Everything changed when my husband and I decided to take on a full gut renovation of our first home. That’s when I realized interior design was not just something designers do on HGTV and could actually be a real possibility for me. I enrolled back in college for interior design and began sharing design content on social media in 2018. At the time, I would decorate friends’ and family members’ spaces for free in exchange for practice working with “clients” and the chance to share progress and reveal photos on Instagram. By 2019, I landed my first real client.

That experience taught me so much. It came with a lot of sleepless nights (still does!), but it also confirmed that I was on the right path. For a couple of years, I continued taking classes, teaching full-time, and managing 1-2 clients at a time. Finally, in 2022, I felt ready to take the leap and quit my teaching job to pursue interior design full-time. It was, without a doubt, the best decision I’ve ever made.

I remember feeling so uncertain back then and hearing others who quit their jobs to start their own businesses say, “Just do it and don’t look back.” Now, at the end of 2024, I share the same sentiment as I juggle projects big and small with my close-knit team here in Dallas. We’re growing, and I couldn’t be more excited for the future!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing a team is scary. Knowing you need help and not knowing what or where to find it is extremely painful for a business owner. I relied heavily on friends and family for help in the beginning as I figured out the ropes of the business but when the tasks and projects became more demanding (as they do), I had to get serious about hiring the right professionals and eventually an in-house team that is just as multitalented as I am.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What makes you happy?
Making others happy truly makes me happy. I’m often called a people-pleaser, which can have its downsides, but I’m aware of it and like to think that being mindful of it helps me stay ahead of the curve. When I see someone smile or feel appreciated, it reminds me that I’m making a positive impact on their day, and that feeling is incredibly rewarding.
